Anthony Davis Won't Discuss Mavs Fans' 'Fire Nico' Chant During Luka's Revenge Game

Mike ChiariApr 10, 2025

Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis refused to answer a question regarding derogatory chants directed toward Mavs general manager Nico Harrison during Wednesday's 112-97 home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Superstar guard Luka Dončić made his return to Dallas for the first time since the Mavericks shockingly traded him to the Lakers in February for a package headlined by Davis.

"Fire Nico" chants from fans have been fairly commonplace at Mavericks games since the trade went down, but they were louder and more emphatic than ever on Wednesday night.

When asked for his thoughts on the chants, AD declined to comment, telling reporters: "No comment. I'm not talking about that."

It undoubtedly had to be an uncomfortable situation for Davis since he was the primary return in the Dončić trade that the fans are still furious about.

Every indication is that the fans don't necessarily have an issue with Davis, but there is clearly still a ton of bad blood between them and Mavericks management regarding how the Luka trade played out.

It clearly didn't help matters that Dončić was a dominant force in his return trip to Dallas, dropping a game-high 45 points on 16-of-28 shooting to go along with eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Those types of performances happened quite often during Dončić's seven-year tenure in Dallas, which saw him earn five All-Star selections and lead the Mavs to the NBA Finals last season.

On top of Dončić's excellent play, AD mostly struggled Wednesday, finishing with only 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting.

Davis has missed several games due to injury since arriving in Dallas, and he clearly hasn't been his usual self since returning.

In eight games as a member of the Mavericks, the 32-year-old is averaging 19.6 points per game and shooting just 44.8 percent from the field. In 42 games with the Lakers this season before the trade, he was averaging 25.7 points and shooting 52.8 percent.

Still, Davis has helped the Mavericks remain in the playoff race even after the departure of Dončić, coupled with Kyrie Irving suffering a season-ending injury.

Dallas is 10th in the Western Conference at 38-42 and has clinched a spot in the postseason tournament.

However, Dončić and LeBron James have the Lakers in third place in the West with a 49-31 mark, and if they go on a deep playoff run, it will only serve to embolden Mavs fans in their campaign against Harrison even more.
