Reviewing 2025 NBA Playoff Picture and Latest Bracket Scenarios for East, West
Congestion is the word of the day in the NBA world.
And that will almost certainly remain the case from now until the 2024-25 regular season comes to a close on April 13.
Scroll through the league standings, and you'll struggle to find breathing room at virtually any point. The races for playoff seeds, play-in spots and even draft lottery ping-pong balls are virtually all too close to call.
To paint this picture even clearer, we'll lay out the updated league standings and playoff bracket before zooming in on some of the most critical chases remaining.

Races To Watch
3 of 3
Eastern Conference
It would still take a pretty monumental collapse for the Cavaliers to squander what's now a 4.5-game lead for the No. 1 seed, but the streaking Celtics (winners of seven straight) seem determined to make this interesting. Basketball-Reference gives Cleveland a 97.6 percent chance of finishing at the top, but the fact this remains undecided seems notable given that the club opened with an absurd 56-10 record.
If the Celtics can't chase down the Cavaliers, then the top three seeds probably aren't changing. That makes the chase for No. 4 the race most worth monitoring. The Pacers are 1.5 games up on the Pistons for the spot for now, and Detroit has the same cushion on Milwaukee for No. 5, but these Central Division foes appear in line for a photo finish.
Western Conference
It's a similar story in the West, only without an ounce of drama at the top. The Thunder already have the No. 1 seed in hand, but things start getting interesting at No. 2, where the Rockets sit 1.5 games up on the Nuggets.
The drama really gets wild when looking at the bunch of clubs clustered between the Nos. 4 and 8 seeds. The Lakers lead that group while the Timberwolves bring up the rear, yet there's only a 2.5-game gap between L.A. and Minnesota. And the teams seeded Nos. 6, 7 and 8—the Clippers, Warriors and Wolves—are all turning up the heat with at least seven victories to show for their last 10 outings.
Finally, the fight for the final two play-in spots is worth noting, too. The ninth-seeded Kings are a half-game up on the 10th-seeded Mavericks and 1.5 games ahead of the 11th-seeded Suns. Since Phoenix has the best record in its past 10 games of the three at just 5-5, a hot streak from any of these teams probably puts them in pole position.
