Giannis Antetokounmpo Out for Bucks vs. Pelicans With Left Shoulder Injury
Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will not play in Sunday's matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Per The Athletic's Eric Nehm, Antetokounmpo has been ruled out of the contest because of left shoulder tendinopathy. It's unclear whether Antetokounmpo is set to miss any time beyond Sunday's game.
Antetokounmpo has managed to stay healthy for most of the year but has dealt with some minor ailments in the second half of the season. He missed time in February with a knee injury before missing a pair of games with a calf injury ahead of the All-Star break.
In late March, Antetokounmpo missed more time due to a foot sprain.
Along with Antetokounmpo's recent injury, Milwaukee is dealing with another key absence. Damian Lillard was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right calf on March 25 and was ruled out indefinitely.
Though it was a scary diagnosis, The Athletic's Eric Nehm and Sam Amick reported that there is "optimism" Lillard could be back on the court this year.
The Bucks will need both Antetokounmpo and Lillard on the court if they want to make a playoff run this year. Antetokounmpo has been in MVP form, averaging 30.5 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists, and Lillard has been a strong complement to him, putting up 24.9 points and 7.1 assists.
