Report: Steph Curry 'Trending in the Right Direction' for Warriors-Heat amid Injury
After suffering a pelvic injury against the Toronto Raptors last week, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry could return to the court as soon as Tuesday's matchup against the Miami Heat.
ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk reported on NBA Live Monday that Curry did some shooting in Monday's practice and "Steve Kerr said he looked good moving." Youngmisuk added that Curry went through an individual workout after practice.
According to Youngmisuk, Curry was upgraded to questionable for Tuesday's contest, and the Warriors "will see how his body responds and maybe see how he feels after his pregame warmup."
Youngmisuk added that Curry "is definitely trending in the right direction to return for tomorrow night."
Curry suffered the injury after driving toward the basket and coming down hard on his back. He was in obvious pain after the fall.
Curry, who played 25 minutes in last Thursday's contest against Toronto before suffering the injury, wanted to return to the court after the injury but the Warriors didn't want to risk it.
He missed Golden State's matchup against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, a 124-115 loss.
The veteran point guard has been mostly healthy this season, playing 60 games and putting up 24.2 points, six assists and 4.4 rebounds per game.
Luckily for the Warriors, some strong play as of late means they should stay afloat in the playoff race even if Curry isn't back on the court on Tuesday. Since landing Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline, Golden State has gone 16-4 and is currently in sixth place in the West at 41-30.
The Warriors can't take their foot off the gas just yet, though. The Minnesota Timberwolves are just half a game behind them and could take the No. 6 seed. The No. 8-seeded Los Angeles Clippers are also just a game behind Golden State.
Avoiding the play-in tournament and a potential matchup against a top-two seed in the West would go a long way in the Warriors' title hopes but they'll need to close out the season strong to do so.
For now, Golden State will focus on getting its star back on the court and ensuring he's healthy as the playoffs near.
