USA Women's Soccer Rally 2015: Top Moments, Images from World Cup Celebration

Tyler ConwayJul 7, 2015

We've seen how the United States women's national team celebrates privately. On Tuesday, we got to see how they do it publicly, as the team took to the streets of Los Angeles for a rally celebrating its 2015 World Cup championship.ย

Held at L.A. Live, the short rally saw members of the USWNT carry on before a raucous crowd that welcomed the team home from its Canadian pilgrimage. The United States won its first World Cup since 1999 with a 5-2 triumph over Japan on Sunday. It's the third World Cup win in U.S. history, breaking a tie with Germany for the most of all time.

Forward Alex Morgan posted a video of her teammates leading a slightly altered version of the chant that followed the USWNT all the way to the final:

Morgan also offered perhaps the best newsworthy quote of the rally, which Fox Sports 1's feed captured:

The USWNT Twitter feed also got in on the action, posting a series of exclusive pictures of players celebrating with fans and the trophy:

Carli Lloyd, who won the Golden Ball Award after her hat trick in the final, scored six goals overall for the tournament. Her scoring played a huge part in the United States even making it to Sunday's game, as its attack struggled mightily throughout group play and early in the elimination round.ย

โ€œIt feels great to be a world champion,โ€ Lloyd said, perย Travis Durkeeย of Sporting News. โ€œIโ€™m so proud to call this my team. Every day so far it feels great to wake up a world champion, and that feeling wonโ€™t get old.โ€

All 23 women who were named to the team made the trip. Abby Wambach, the 35-year-old legend whose international career is winding down, was emotional on the stage as she discussed finally getting over the final hump remaining in her career. ย

"I can't tell you what it's like to be a world champion," Wambach said, per Durkee. "Honestly it hasn't really sunk in. I can't believe it."

Here is an additional look at some of the best photos from the rally:

Overall, it was a spectacle fitting of this team's triumph.ย
