Payton Pritchard Wins 2024-25 NBA Sixth Man of the Year over Ty Jerome, Malik Beasley
The best season of Payton Pritchard's career has resulted in him being named the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year.
Pritchard beat out fellow finalists Malik Beasley of the Detroit Pistons and Ty Jerome of the Cleveland Cavaliers for the award on Tuesday.
Pritchard has been an ace off the bench for the Boston Celtics since entering the NBA in 2020. He was a 39.5 percent shooter from three-point range in his first four seasons.
The 2024-25 campaign saw Pritchard take his game to another level. He set career-highs across the board, including minutes per game (28.4), scoring (14.3), rebounds (3.8), assists (3.5) and field-goal percentage (47.2). He also shot 40.7 percent from three on 7.8 attempts per contest.
Given how reliant the Celtics are on three-point shooting for their success, Pritchard's success rate is instrumental for head coach Joe Mazzulla.
Even though Pritchard's overall volume isn't extremely high, his efficiency is incredible. He had a 62.0 effective field-goal percentage, not far behind Nikola Jokić (62.7).
The Celtics are arguably the favorites to win the NBA title for a second consecutive year in part because of the roster depth they have accrued. Pritchard is a huge component of that and has worked his up to being a high-level role player after being selected with the 26th pick in the 2020 draft.
Pritchard is the fourth different Celtics player to win the Sixth Man of the Year award. He joins a group that includes two-time winner Kevin McHale, Bill Walton and Malcolm Brogdon.
With five total Sixth Man of the Year wins, the Celtics have tied the Los Angeles Clippers for the most by a single team.
