Video: Richard Jefferson Reveals LeBron James, 2016 Cavs Still Have Active Group Chat
Eight years after the Cleveland Cavaliers' 2016 title run, LeBron James is still part of an active group chat with his former teammates.
Richard Jefferson revealed the existence of the chat after Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love mobbed him during ESPN's Wednesday broadcast featuring the Cavs and the Miami Heat.
"These are my brothers, man. I love them to death," Jefferson said. "And I think people understand, when you accomplish something great, they're tied to you forever. Our text chain is still going."
According to Jefferson, the group chat includes himself, Thompson and Love alongside LeBron James and Channing Frye.
James and Love started, while Jefferson, Thompson and Frye played key backup roles as the Cavaliers became the first team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 Finals deficit by defeating the Golden State Warriors in seven games.
Only Thompson still plays for the Cavs. Love is now with the Heat, and James playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. Jefferson joined ESPN in 2019, while Frye has also worked as an NBA analyst and podcast host.
That apparently hasn't stopped the group has stayed close after leaving the Cavs to the franchise's first title.
Thompson will now hope to help lead the Cavs to a second championship as the team prepares to potentially enter the playoffs as the top seed in the East.
