Shams: Jimmy Butler 'Clicking' with Draymond; Steph Curry Chemistry 'A Long Way to Go'
The early returns for Jimmy Butler as a member of the Golden State Warriors are very promising with a 3-1 record, but there's still work to do as he builds his chemistry with Stephen Curry.
Appearing on Get Up, ESPN's Shams Charania explained that Butler has had no problems "clicking" with Draymond Green, but there's still "a long way to go" in his rapport with Curry:
"How's that dynamic between him and Draymond Green? We know they're both very passionate players. I'm told they both had dominos sessions, they both had dinners, they both had opportunities to really get on the same page and build that chemistry. So, those two are clicking. Him and Stephen Curry, I think, still have a long way to go as far as their chemistry, but it's gone as well as it possibly can.
"Jimmy Butler, whether it's a honeymoon period or not, he is thoroughly enjoying this experience with the Warriors. I really do believe he believes it's night and day with how the Warriors are handling this season and how they appeared vs. what was going on in Miami. Only time will tell how far this team will go but him, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, it seems to be hitting off on the right note."
When the Warriors initially acquired Butler, there were some concerns about how his personality would mesh with Green. They are both very outspoken players who will not hesitate to call out a teammate, but they are making sure things work at this point.
"He win? I win? That’s the fit. Winners win," Green told reporters on Feb. 6. "He’s a winner. Perennial All-Star. Tough as nails. Just f--king get the job done however it needs to be done."
There's been nothing obvious to suggest Curry and Butler aren't meshing well at this point. Curry is averaging 31.0 points, 5.3 assists and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 39.7 percent from three-point range in four games with Butler.
Butler has scored at least 19 points in each of his four games with the Warriors. He's averaging 7.0 rebounds and 5.3 assists per contest during that span.
The Warriors have 27 games remaining in the regular season to continue developing the chemistry among their top three players. They are currently 10th in the Western Conference with a 28-27 record.
