Kyrie Irving Taking Things 'One Day at a Time' with Mavs After Doncic Trade to Lakers
Though Kyrie Irving stayed put at this year's NBA trade deadline, the team around him changed drastically.
In one of the biggest trades in NBA history, the Dallas Mavericks sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in return for Anthony Davis. In an interview with ESPN's Malika Andrews, Irving said he's still adjusting to the new-look Mavs.
"I'm good. I'm taking it one day at a time but also kind of enjoying the process of a changing environment, as hard as that sounds coming out," Irving said (37-second mark). "You still have to find a way to find joy and make sure everybody's good. We're all human, so we're all going to feel for each other.
Irving and Dončić didn't spend much time together, as Irving was traded to Dallas during the 2022-23 season, but their time together was fruitful. After missing the postseason in their first year, Irving and Dončić led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals last season, where they fell short against the Boston Celtics.
Despite reaching the Finals for the first time since 2011, Dallas felt it was best to move on from Dončić and replace him with a defensive-minded player in Davis.
Things haven't gone well in the new era for Dallas, as Davis played just one game before suffering a left adductor strain that is set to leave him sidelined for multiple weeks.
Once Davis returns, the Mavericks will look to put together a strong second half of the season to ensure a playoff berth.
