NBA Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz Surrounding Joe Johnson, Jeremy Lin and Nick Young

Daniel RogersJul 6, 2015

The first few days of free agency were hectic, but even as the action slows down and everyone catches their breath, there is still plenty of work to be done in the offseason.

Whether it be teams trying to offload contracts or trying to find that one final piece to help them reach the ultimate goal of an NBA title, the trade market has heated up in the last few days, as a few big-name players are starting to reach the block.

With a free-agency frenzy on the horizon for the next two seasons, teams are battening down the hatches and looking to win now, which has lead to a few juicy trade discussions.

Here are some of the hottest trade rumors from around the NBA.

Cleveland Cavaliers looking to trade for Joe Johnson

Arguably the big winners of the offseason so far, considering they re-signed superstar forward Kevin Love, the Cleveland Cavaliers still don’t appear to be done preparing for another push for a championship.

With one of the more front-loaded rosters in the NBA, the Cavs are looking to add another former-All Star in the form of Brooklyn Nets forward Joe Johnson, who will add scoring and shooting:

Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com reported that the Cavaliers are looking to offload their hefty Brendan Haywood contract as part of a deal with the Nets to acquire Johnson.

Although offloading Haywood is a plus for the Eastern Conference Champions, Johnson comes with his own financial burden, as he is set to be the second-highest-paid player in the league next year, just behind Kobe Bryant.

But the upside is tough to ignore, as Johnson averaged 14.4 points per game for the Nets last year, and Cleveland will look to add depth after watching a shot at the NBA title slip away because of a string of injuries to key contributors.

Jeremy Lin to the Mavericks in a possible sign-and-trade

Taking Linsanity to the City of Angels was a fun idea, but after just a single disappointing season with the Lakers, it looks like Jeremy Lin could be on his way out of Los Angeles.

Joining the team from the Houston Rockets last offseason, Lin’s 2014-15 campaign was plagued by inconsistency, and as the Lakers look to build for the future, Lin could be a candidate for a sign-and-trade to clear space and gain another piece for their rebuild.

According to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, the Mavericks have been interested in bringing Lin to Dallas, and a trade with the Lakers looks like the best possibility to get the deal done:

Lin’s scoring output reached a low since his breakout season with the Knicks in 2011-12, as he only averaged 11.2 points per game and dished out 4.6 assists a night as well. After letting go of Rajon Rondo and losing Monta Ellis in free agency, the Mavericks need depth at guard, and Lin could fit that role:

With both Jordan Clarkson and now D’Angelo Russell on the roster, the Lakers won’t miss Lin’s production and would be happy to receive anything in return for the point guard.

Los Angeles Lakers looking to offload Nick Young

Another player who is possibly feeling the impact of the Lakers' recent push in the free-agency market is small forward Nick Young.

A valuable role player for the Lakers, Young also received a large amount of criticism for a serious drop in shooting percentage from 43.5 percent in 2013-14 to 36.6 last year.

Reaching agreements with free agents Lou Williams and Brandon Bass and agreeing to a trade with the Indiana Pacers for Roy Hibbert has left the Lakers with limited cap space to work with, and Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports believes that Young is a strong possibility to be shipped out:

LOS ANGELES, CA - JANUARY 15: Nick Young #0 of the Los Angeles Lakers drives against Kyrie Irving #2 of the Cleveland Cavaliers at STAPLES Center on January 15, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by

Since joining the Wizards in 2007, Young has struggled with consistency, averaging 17.9 points per game two years ago before watching his numbers fall to just 13.4 last season:

Any team willing to trade for Young will be taking a gamble and hoping the forward finds his scoring touch once again. When playing well, Young has the talent to succeed as a team’s sixth man, but when missing his shots he becomes more of a liability on both sides of the ball.
