Kevin Durant Says the 'Only Thing Matters is Rings and Legacy' in Response to Fan
Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant had a simple response to a fan who was criticizing the current state of the NBA on social media.
The fan declared, "Media made casuals only care about ring culture. That’s why [Durant] left to go get [three] free finals trips," referring to the 36-year-old's decision to part ways with the Oklahoma City Thunder and join the Golden State Warriors in 2016. Durant made it clear in his response that "ring culture" is just as important to him as it is to the so-called "casuals":
Durant earned back-to-back NBA championships with the Warriors in 2017 and 2018 and was named NBA Finals MVP both years, so his legacy is undoubtedly intact. He helped Golden State make a third straight trip to the NBA Finals in 2019, but he suffered a torn Achilles in Game 5 against the Toronto Raptors, who eventually won the series in six games and ended the Warriors' hopes of a three-peat.
Since leaving Golden State prior to the 2019-20 season, Durant has not made another NBA Finals appearance, so it's understandable that he cherishes his two championship rings and feels comfortable with his decision to join the Warriors nearly a decade ago.
