Luka Doncic, Kobe Bryant Lakers Mural Spotted in Los Angeles in New Video, Photos
A new mural featuring Luka Doncic alongside late Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant is currently being painted in Los Angeles.
The mural depicts an interaction that Bryant and Doncic had during the 2019-20 season, with the five-time champion playfully heckling the young star in Slovenian.
The Lakers acquired Doncic in a blockbuster three-team trade involving the Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz on Feb. 2, sending a package headlined by Anthony Davis in return.
The former Mavericks superstar discussed the encounter with Bryant during his introductory press conference in Los Angeles following the change of scenery.
"First of all, I remember the exact moment that it happened,” Doncic said. “It always stayed in my mind. It was an amazing moment. Just for Kobe to know my name was amazing for me. I just wish Kobe and Gigi were here to see this moment, and I’m excited about this new journey and happy to be here.”
The trade was surprising, especially considering Doncic paced the league in scoring by averaging 33.9 points per game during the 2023-24 season and led the Mavericks to a 2024 NBA Finals appearance.
Bryant is the last member of the Lakers to win a scoring title, doing so by recording 31.6 points per game during the 2006-07 season.
Now, Doncic is teaming up with LeBron James as they attempt to help Los Angeles clinch its fifth playoff appearance in six years. The Lakers currently sit at 32-20, good enough for the No. 5 spot in the Western Conference standings.
Doncic has played two games with Los Angeles following the trade, operating on a minutes restriction as he ramps up from a calf injury. He's averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 23.5 minutes per game while shooting 40.7 percent from the field on his new team.
As Doncic looks to shake off any rust following the NBA All-Star break, a mural featuring himself with the Lakers' all-time leading scorer should be finished soon.
