Steph Curry Has 'No Hard Feelings' for Kevin Durant After Warriors, Suns Trade Rumors
Stephen Curry didn't take it personally that Kevin Durant had no interest in returning to the Golden State Warriors when they were having discussions with the Phoenix Suns prior to the trade deadline.
Speaking to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk, Curry explained he has "no hard feelings" toward Durant for his decision.
"You need everybody to be all bought in no matter what the history you have. And I respect KD. It's all about having peace of mind and happiness. Neither one of us controlled that [trade] situation. It's just you want to make sure somebody wants to be somewhere. Other than that, I'm not trying to convince anybody to be somewhere they don't want to be."
When the Warriors were trying to make a big splash prior to the Feb. 6 trade deadline, theyย made a pushย to see if Durant would have interest in returning to the Bay Area five years after he left as a free agent.
Youngmisuk and Shams Charaniaย reported on Feb. 5 that Durant had "no desire" for a reunion with the Warriors. There was no reason given for why he felt that way.
Durant hasย saidย in the past he always "felt accepted" during his time with Golden State, but his experience with the team was different compared to players like Curry and Draymond Green because he wasn't drafted by the organization.
"As time went on, I started to realize Iโm just different from the rest of the guys. Itโs not a bad thing," he said. "Just my circumstances and how I came up in the league. And on top of that, the media always looked at it like KD and the Warriors. So itโs like nobody could get a full acceptance of me there."
Things worked out okay for the Warriors at the deadline, as they were able to land Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat to give them another go-to option who could ease the burden on Curry.
If anything, the Suns were the biggest loser from this whole situation. Durant wasย reportedlyย not happy to be included in trade rumors and there seems to be a growing possibility he could end up being dealt this summer.
Durant's three-season run with the Warriors was extremely successful. They made the NBA Finals all three years, winning two titles. Durant was named Finals MVP in both wins.
