76ers Convert Jared Butler's 2-Way Contract into 2-Year Deal After Trade from Wizards
The Philadelphia 76ers are converting Jared Butler's two-way contract into a two-year standard deal, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
The 24-year-old guard joined the Sixers last week, alongside four future second-round draft picks, in the trade that sent Reggie Jackson and a conditional 2026 first-round pick to the Washington Wizards.
Butler had appeared in 32 games for Washington in a reserve role, averaging 6.9 points and 2.6 assists in 11.3 minutes per game.
Philadelphia's ongoing onslaught of injuries has meant a bigger role for Butler, however, and he's responded by posting 10 points and 4.7 assists per game with the Sixers across three contests (17.0 MPG).
While the 20-34 Sixers have been the NBA's biggest disappointment this season, they've unearthed a few quality rotation players in the process.
First-round pick Jared McCain was a revelation before a season-ending torn meniscus. Overseas signing Guerschon Yabusele (11.1 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 40.1 percent from three) has been the stretch-big the Sixers have been seeking for years behind Embiid. Undrafted rookie Justin Edwards has emerged as legitimate depth on the wing. And deadline acquisitions like Butler and Quentin Grimes have looked like solid contributors.
Of course, it's a huge disappointment for the Sixers that the best storylines from the 2024-25 season have been players on the margins. But at this point, they'll take the wins where they can get them as Embiid and Paul George continue to be hampered by injuries. The Sixers seem unlikely to make any noise in the playoffs this season—if they even get that far—but they've found a few complementary role players for next season, when they'll hope their stars can remain healthy.
