Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Angel Di Maria, Yohan Cabaye Rumours
One day after the final of the 2015 Copa America, French reports are already talking about Angel di Maria's potential transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, with le10sport (h/t Metro's Jamie Sanderson) claiming Les Parisiens and Manchester United are discussing a move.
The rumours even claim Di Maria has been told he can leave the club, and United have accepted they won't recuperate the £57.9 million fee they paid for the Argentina international a year ago:
"Di Maria, who was frozen out of the United squad in the closing stages of last season, has been told he can leave by manager Louis van Gaal.
And after having Financial Fair Play restrictions relaxed, reports in France say PSG have opened talks with United to sign Di Maria.
The Argentine is currently away with the national team at the Copa America but could hold talks with PSG after if a fee is agreed.
United paid £57.9million for Di Maria but are resigned to not getting that money back if he’s sold.
"
The report follows on the heels of Di Maria's excellent performance at the Copa America, which came to an abrupt end in the final, where he suffered a hamstring injury, per ESPN FC's Ben Dinnery.
The former Real Madrid winger's first season at Old Trafford wasn't a success, but reports of an imminent departure seem odd, to say the least. Di Maria cost the Red Devils a small fortune, and fans were expecting an immediate return on the investment, but his struggles adapting to a new league could have been expected.
Di Maria himself said as much, as shared by Full Time DEVILS:
The 27-year-old clearly wasn't himself last season, but he'll undoubtedly be expecting a big bounce-back campaign in 2015/16. It's unfortunate that his summer started with another injury, but he has plenty of time left to rest, get healthy and work on his form before the start of the new season.
His performance at the 2015 Copa America indicates he was on the right track before he suffered the injury, via ESPN FC's Miguel Delaney:
"The Manchester City defender (Martin Demichelis) could say that because Di Maria has made a breakthrough in his own form at this Copa America. The winger who seemed so wasteful and ineffective at Manchester United last season has disappeared. Replacing him is the thrusting and thrilling attacker who was man of the match in the 2014 Champions League final with Real Madrid.
"
PSG would love to bring Di Maria to the French capital, but as things stand, United have no reason to sell. You can't just give up on a player as talented as Di Maria just one season after making such a large investment, and it's highly unlikely manager Louis van Gaal intends to.
Don't expect this rumour to go anywhere, however. As noted by Sanderson, PSG's financial fair play restrictions have just been lifted, and the French press will undoubtedly use the opportunity to bombard us with speculation.
Yohan Cabaye Reportedly Eyed

Speaking of the French media, L'Equipe (h/t Metro's Tom Olver) believe United are considering a bid for Yohan Cabaye, the former Newcastle United star who moved to PSG in 2014 but has spent most of his time there on the bench.
The 29-year-old is expected to leave the French capital during the summer in an effort to get more playing time ahead of Euro 2016, with Les Parisiens eyeing a fee in the region of £10 million.
Cabaye has also been linked with Crystal Palace, and per SuperSport Blitz, the Eagles' co-chairman Steve Parish has already confirmed the south London club is working on a deal.
A move to Palace would make sense for Cabaye, who could probably break into the starting XI of a better Premier League club but would be reunited with former manager Alan Pardew. The Guardian's Kristan Heneage believes the Eagles' squad is starting to look rather promising:
A move to Old Trafford makes a lot less sense, however. Cabaye proved himself unable to break into PSG's starting XI, and in terms of pure quality, the French champions are comparable to the Mancunians. Van Gaal is trying to build a world-class team that can contend for a Champions League title―he's not looking for players of Cabaye's caliber.
Likewise, the France international needs to play, and he wouldn't find any more playing time at Old Trafford than he does in his current situation. Crystal Palace or a similar club would give him the chance to shine on a regular basis, and the same simply can't be said for United.
Exactly where this rumour is coming from is unclear, particularly as L'Equipe are also reporting Crystal Palace's deal for Cabaye is as good as done, per Get French Football News.
This particular rumour has “silly season” written all over it, and while stranger things have happened, expect Cabaye to officially make the move to London, not Manchester, during this summer.
