Bobby Portis Reportedly to Sign 3-Year, $44M Bucks Contract amid Giannis Rumors
Bobby Portis is back for a sixth season and more with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Portis and the Bucks have agreed to a three-year, $44 million contract, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Sunday. The deal reportedly includes a player option for 2027-28. Portis previously held a $13.4 million player option for 2025-26.
The deal could boost Milwaukee's chances to retain star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, as Charania previously reported that he will be "closely observing" the team's offseason moves before deciding whether or not he will push to be traded.

After two straight seasons as a Sixth Man of the Year finalist, Portis averaged 13.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists mostly off the bench in 2024-25.
He was suspended for 25 games in February after testing positive for a painkiller banned by the NBA, but returned to average 14.0 points in five playoff games prior to the Bucks' first-round elimination.
Portis has proved to be an important part of Milwaukee's offensive depth ever since he averaged 8.8 points off the bench during the Bucks' run to the 2021 NBA title.
He could now play an even more significant role going forward as Milwaukee braces for the loss of Damian Lillard amid his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon.
Originally a first-round pick out of Arkansas by the Chicago Bulls in 2015, Portis began his NBA career with three and a half seasons in Chicago.
Since his first trade midway through the 2018-19 season, Portis played for the Washington Wizards and New York Knicks before signing with the Bucks as a free agent in 2020.
Portis went on to help the Bucks win the 2021 championship while establishing himself as one of the most effective sixth men in franchise history.
He will now be back to lead the team's reserves as the Bucks work to build a strong enough roster to convince Antetokounmpo to re-sign in Milwaukee.
