Dudley commented on the move, via Alex Kennedy of BasketballInsiders:
After Paul Pierce bolted for the Los Angeles Clippers, the Wizards had been in search of a replacement who could knock down threes and fortify the team's perimeter defense.
In Dudley, they get just that.
Last season, the soon-to-be 30-year-old drilled 38.5 percent of his threes while holding opposing small forwards to a player efficiency rating of 12.2 (league average is 15.0), according to 82games.com.
At 6'7'' and 225 pounds, Dudley is also strong enough to function as a small-ball power forward. As such, he can provide the Wizards with tremendous versatility when they're pressed into defending speedier lineups.
According to Basketball-Reference.com, Dudley played 11 percent of his total minutes at the 4 last season. During those minutes, he posted a PER of 19.6—4.9 points higher than his PER at small forward, according to 82games.
Dudley, who opted into a $4.25 million player option days before the start of free agency, is in the final year of his contract.
Now he'll look to pad his value in a dynamic Wizards offense next season alongside John Wall, Bradley Beal and Marcin Gortat.
