Arsenal Transfer News: Arsene Wenger Slammed over Wojciech Szczesny Treatment
Polish goalkeeping legend Jan Tomaszewski has accused Arsene Wenger of lying to Wojciech Szczesny over his future at Arsenal.
The Gunners confirmed the capture of Chelsea veteran Petr Cech on Monday, as reported by the club's website. Having already lost his starting place to David Ospina, Szczesny is now the third-choice 'keeper in the north London side's pecking order.
Tomaszewski believes Szczesny has been short-changed, as reported by Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy (h/t James Olley of the London Evening Standard):
"In January I spoke to (Poland manager) Adam Nawalka and he said that Arsene Wenger had told him that if Szczesny worked hard in training he would play again soon.
It turned out that he didn't tell the truth. I'm sure that when Szczesny said that he was going to stay at Arsenal, he didn't know that Cech was going to come because Wenger didn't tell him about his plans. Szczesny should leave, because it will be waste of time for him, if he stays.
"

Tomaszewski believes "Wojciech is still Poland's No. 1." However, Cech's arrivals means "he has no chance to play at Arsenal and for Poland. It could be end of his career in [the] national team."
Szczesny suggested he is at the Emirates Stadium "for good" in May, and that he will "definitely stay at Arsenal," reported Dave Kidd of the Mirror.
Maciej Szczesny, the player's father, previously accused Wenger of showing no loyalty toward his son: "Wenger shall not be counted among loyal individuals," he said, per Liam Corless of the Mirror. "He doesn't always keep his promises and isn't always honest."

Szczesny managed just 17 Premier League starts during the 2014-15 campaign, per WhoScored.com. He appeared five times in Arsenal's successful FA Cup run but is now destined to sit on the side's bench if he doesn't secure a move away.
The 25-year-old worked avidly to become the Gunners No. 1, but he often has his quality questioned. He is a reactive shot-stopper, capable of making match-winning saves and is fairly dominant from crosses. However, Szczesny isn't a great decision maker when he's given time to think and has a tendency to trust his ability with a ball at his feet a little too much.
Ospina also faced a number of troubles last season and was exploited with high, looping crosses into the Arsenal area. At 33 years old, Cech has the quality to maintain his position in the starting lineup until he decides to retire.
Arsenal blogger Andrew Mangan suggested Wenger is finally intent on winning trophies in the present rather than planning for the future, per ESPN FC:
Szczesny has remained with Arsenal since 2009, but now is the time to move on. He only has to look at countryman Lukasz Fabianski—who left the club for Swansea City last summer—to realise he can play a massive role elsewhere.
The Welsh side recently secured their highest ever Premier League finish with Fabianski excelling in goal. Now the transfer window is open, it's likely Szczesny will generate interest from clubs of a similar stature. Should he accept the challenge, he can easily nail down his place in the Poland lineup once again.
