Georgia Football Recruiting: Top Commits, Targets to Watch at The Opening
The Opening is a high school football camp held in Beaverton, Oregon, and it features over 160 of the best players in the country. The camp is held from July 5-10, and it will be hosted by Nike.
The Georgia Bulldogs have had a strong recruiting season so far, and some of the players who have committed to Georgia will be taking part in The Opening. This event is not just to get players ready for their final year of high school football, but also to prepare them for what is going to be expected of them at the college level.
But for the Georgia fan who doesn't know about the new recruits coming into the fold in 2016, who are some of the players to watch who are coming to Athens, and which uncommitted recruits have the Bulldogs on their radar?
Let’s take a closer look.
QB Jacob Eason
1 of 5
The most notable player to watch has to be the top quarterback prospect in the country, according to 247Sports.
Jacob Eason has been a longtime commit to the Bulldogs, and he has all the tools to be a successful quarterback in Athens. He has great size, great arm strength and accuracy. He had a strong junior season at Lake Stevens High School in Washington, as he threw for nearly 3,000 yards, 32 touchdowns and only three interceptions.
He should have no issues going through the drills at The Opening, and when it’s all said and done, he could end up as the nation's top prospect overall.
DT Julian Rochester

The players participating in The Opening will be separated into teams, and Eason will be on Team Fly Rush. Another Georgia commit that will be on Fly Rush is Julian Rochester, and he could be the best defensive tackle in the country.
247Sports rates Rochester as the second-best prospect in Georgia. With his elite size (6’5 ½’’, 315 lbs), he’s very strong and athletic. He had a huge year for McEachern High School (Powder Springs, Georgia) last season, tallying 116 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 12 sacks.
Eason is a great prospect, but the Bulldogs are really going to have a great class because of the addition of Rochester.
DT Derrick Brown
3 of 5
The Bulldogs are not done adding defensive tackles to the class, because Derrick Brown is also likely to join the Bulldogs, according to 247Sports.
Brown had numbers similar to Rochester's last season at Lanier High School in Buford, Georgia. He registered 101 tackles, 26 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks. He’s listed as the No. 1 player in Georgia and the No. 7 player in the country.
Once Brown makes his commitment to the Bulldogs, the recruiting class will get a huge boost. He and Rochester should make a dominant combination when they arrive next season.
ATH Demetris Robertson
4 of 5
The Bulldogs can never have enough athletes, and Demetris Robertson will have a chance to show what he can do at The Opening.
247Sports has Robertson listed at the No. 3 player in Georgia and the No. 1 athlete in the country. They predict that he will pick Georgia over Alabama, the program he initially committed to but decommitted back in April, according to Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Robertson is athletic, explosive and versatile. He only played in five games last season at Savannah Christian in Savannah, Georgia, but he tallied 394 all-purpose yards and 10 touchdowns.
DT Rashan Gary
5 of 5
Because the Bulldogs have Rochester committed and Brown will likely commit soon, Rashan Gary may not sign with the Bulldogs at the end of the day, but he does like them, according to 247Sports.
Gary is the No. 1 player in the country, and he has dominated at the high school level. Last year at Paramus Catholic High School in Paramus, New Jersey, Gary recorded 55 tackles and 14 sacks.
Schools all around the country have made him an offer including Georgia. Again, the Bulldogs already have one elite tackle committed and another close to committing, but it doesn’t mean the Bulldogs aren’t targeting another blue-chip defensive tackle prospect.
