Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Carlos Bacca, Javier Hernandez Rumours
For all the stellar business already conducted by Liverpool this summer, it looks as though the club are set to miss out on Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca after the Colombian confirmed he’s off to AC Milan.
The player’s agent, Sergio Barila, had revealed to Marca that his client had agreed to join the Rossoneri this summer (h/t ESPN FC). Now, the 28-year-old has confirmed the switch, per Deportes EH:

“It needs to be confirmed, but what my person of confidence said is true: we've reached an agreement with Milan, which is the club with 100 percent of the possibility [of signing me],” is what Bacca told reporters, relayed by the aforementioned ESPN FC piece.
Here’s a look at the kind of qualities Milan will be getting and what the Reds have missed out on:
In truth, not signing Colombia international may be a blessing in disguise for Liverpool. While Bacca has been mightily impressive for Sevilla, he’s still a little capricious in his play, and at the age of 28, that’s never likely to change. In addition, given that he turns 29 later in year, the fee of €30 million quoted in the ESPN FC piece seems excessive.

Nonetheless, as we can see here, courtesy of WhoScored.com, Bacca does possess the kind of predatory instincts that were in short supply for the Reds last season:
It seems as though those qualities will have to come from elsewhere this summer, and in an intriguing report, AS (h/t Marc Williams of the Daily Star) has linked Liverpool with a move for Manchester United’s out-of-favour forward Javier Hernandez.

The Mexico international was on loan at Real Madrid last season, but despite finishing his time in the Spanish capital with a flourish, he is highly unlikely to return to the club. It means the Reds could potentially step in, but Williams claims the Red Devils are "unlikely to sell to an English club."
Though Liverpool need a striker and appear to have the money to pursue a top-quality option, Hernandez is not the answer.

Not only are transfer deals between the Reds and United exceptionally rare, Phil Chisnall was the last man to move between the clubs back in April 1964, but the Mexican is a little one dimensional despite his obvious goalscoring pedigree.
Missing out on Bacca may represent the Reds’ first major blow of the transfer window, but Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers can be content with the job he’s done in the market so far.
Admittedly, world-class No. 9’s are tough to find, but as the summer rolls on, there are surely going to be opportunities for Liverpool to replenish this critical area of their squad.
