Real Madrid Transfer News: Jose Mourinho Rumours Sparked by Sergio Ramos Saga

Rory MarsdenJun 25, 2015

Sergio Ramos' potential departure from Real Madrid could reportedly pave the way for Jose Mourinho to return as manager at the Bernabeu.

Centre-back Ramos has recently been linked with a move to Manchester United, with the Red Devils supposedly lodging a £35 million bid for the Spaniard, per Pete Jenson of the Daily Mail.

Ramos is apparently unhappy that he has been allowed to enter the last two years of his contract and is looking to depart Madrid.

According to El Pais journalist Diego Torres (h/t La Liga expert Dermot Corrigan), Real president Florentino Perez would welcome Ramos' departure, as it would open the door for Mourinho to return to the helm at the Bernabeu:

The Portuguese boss, now at Chelsea, spent three years managing Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning one La Liga title and a Copa del Rey.

However, Perez apparently blames his departure to Stamford Bridge on Ramos and goalkeeper Iker Casillas, both high-profile players who fell out with Mourinho, per Jenson.

Casillas looks to be on his way out of the Bernabeu, having endured a poor season in 2014-15, with United's David De Gea set to take over in the top spot, per Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson:

If Ramos also departs, Perez would surely be in a much better position to tempt Mourinho back to Real.

While Rafael Benitez has only just replaced Carlo Ancelotti in the top job at the Bernabeu, a future return for Mourinho at Los Blancos is not out of the question.

He is currently settled at Stamford Bridge after winning the Premier League title, but he has shown in the past that he does not like to stay put for too long at a single club no matter his success—see his departure from Inter after winning the Champions League.

Now in his second stint at Chelsea, the 52-year-old Mourinho has also shown he is not averse to returning to former clubs.

He has unfinished business at Real, having failed to win the Champions League with the Spanish giants, and if given the opportunity to mould his own squad without prior rebels, he may be persuaded to return to Madrid in the future.
