Grandma's Marathon 2015 Results: Men's and Women's Top Finishers
The 2015 Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, is in the books. Kenyans were the top finishers on both the men's and women's sides.
The fastest overall finisher was Elisha Barno with an unofficial time of 2:10:36. Louie St. George of the Duluth News Tribune tweeted this image of the winner being interviewed after his triumphant run:
Jane Kibii paced the women with a time of 2:32:05. WEBC 560 grabbed an image of Kibii shortly after her victorious moment:
The 29-year-old Barno blew away Dominic Ondoro with a late push. Ondoro, who is also Kenyan and is Barno's running partner, finished second. Barno and Ondoro stayed within a four-pack of runners through much of the race, but Barno had the juice toward the end and ran away from the group.
Per All-Athletics.com, the time was Barno's new personal best. He had previously run 2:12:28 in Nairobi. According to Zach Schneider, the sports director for the NBC/CBS affiliate in Duluth, Barno's time was among the best in the race's history:
Per the event's official Twitter account, here are the top three finishers:
Kibii also set a new personal record with her performance. She edged 28-year-old American Lindsey Scherf by 13 seconds. Grandma's Marathon tweeted the top three female finishers and their times:
Per All-Athletics.com, Kibii beat her personal best—set in Sacramento, California, in April—by 19 seconds. That's a significant jump and could be due to the relatively flat track at the Grandma's Marathon. In any case, Kibii is on a role, with two wins in the last two months.
Scherf also produced the best time of her career. She had previously run 2:37:26 at the Chicago Marathon in October 2014. As usual, the Grandma's Marathon produced a healthy balance of competitive times and shined a light on the noncompetitive runners who completed the race:
With another successful race completed, the folks in charge of arranging this great race should feel proud of their accomplishments and hard work.
Barno and Kibii have established some momentum heading into their next event, and we can all look forward to the 2016 Grandma's Marathon, when new winners and finishers will shine.
