Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Grzegorz Krychowiak, More

Gianni VerschuerenJun 20, 2015

Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak will not demand a transfer during the summer window, meaning Manchester United and Arsenal will have to trigger his £21 million release clause to bring the midfielder to the Premier League, according to the latest rumours.

The 25-year-old had another excellent season in La Liga and recently switched agents, per the Daily Telegraph's Matt Law, but according to Joe Bernstein of MailOnline, he's more than happy to stay with Sevilla for the foreseeable future:

"

Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak will not push for a Premier League move this summer if Arsenal and Manchester United do not meet his £21million buy-out clause in Spain.

Krychowiak, 25, is looking forward to playing in the Champions League with Sevilla next season after helping them win the Europa League and unlikely to put in a transfer request to try and force through a deal.

Krychowiak played a pivotal role for Sevilla in 2014-15, anchoring the side's midfield during their run to the Europa League title. He was elected to La Liga's team of the season for his efforts, beating the likes of Toni Kroos, via Messi Minutes:

He moved to Sevilla from Reims only last season but has quickly established himself as one of the best central midfielders in Spain.

Krychowiak plays as an enforcer in front of the defence, but he does more than just tackle and stop attacks. Chris Moar of beIN Sports is adamant the Poland international is more versatile than people give him credit for, and while he doesn't represent the same attacking threat as Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin, he's not a one-trick pony, either:

That said, £21 million is a steep price to pay for a player with just one year in La Liga under his belt. Krychowiak is an excellent player, but it's far too early to start calling him the kind of world-class option United need.

In today's transfer market, £21 million is a reasonable price to pay for a quality midfielder, but according to Bernstein, Schneiderlin will cost interested teams just £4 million more. The France international has proved himself on the Premier League level over the course of multiple seasons, and for that price, he's the safer buy.

Krychowiak is a name to keep an eye on should Schneiderlin not make the move to Old Trafford, but as of right now, the Frenchman should be the Red Devils' priority.

Deal Reportedly Agreed for Dayot Upamecano

Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Metro's George Bellshaw) claims United have agreed to a deal for Valenciennes' Dayot Upamecano, a 16-year-old French centre-back and youth international.

According to Get French Football, the Italian blog is jumping the gun a bit, as negotiations are still ongoing:

United have been trying to sign Upamecano for a while now―Metro's Jamie Sanderson previously reported a deal had been agreed back in May―and remain the favourites for his signature.

So who is Upamecano?

The teenager is yet to make his senior debut for Valenciennes, who play in Ligue 2, but he made a huge impression at the Under-17 European Championship, where France cruised to the title, beating the likes of Italy, Belgium and Germany along the way.

He played in every match and was a defensive rock for Les Bleus, who didn't concede their first goal until the second half of the semi-final. Their eventual title was an impressive team effort, but Upamecano's performances stood out.

The youngster needs a lot of seasoning before he's ready to make his mark on the Premier League, but he already has the physique to hold his own against grown men.

Upamecano has all the tools to be a top-class centre-back, and at this point in his career, a move to a top youth academy like United's may be in his best interest. Valenciennes haven't produced too many star players in the past, and unless they plan on promoting him to the senior squad during the summer, there's little left for him to learn in the north of France.

The youngster won't be the solution to United's centre-back conundrum anytime soon, but with the right guidance, he could make his Premier League debut in three or four seasons and develop into a star defender.
