US Open Golf 2015: Predictions, Live Stream and TV Coverage Hub for Saturday

Rory MarsdenJun 20, 2015

Masters champion Jordan Spieth leads the way as the 2015 U.S. Open heads into the weekend at Chambers Bay, with several high-profile names having missed the cut.

Tiger Woods had a torrid time over the opening two days and finished 16 over par, while Bubba Watson and defending champion Martin Kaymer will also be absent at the weekend.

However, the quality is high at the top of the leaderboard, with Patrick Reed tied at five under with Spieth and Dustin Johnson and South Africa's Branden Grace just one shot back.

Day 3 Predictions

Jordan Spieth

As he proved at the Masters earlier this year, Spieth will not buckle under the pressure of leading the U.S. Open.

The 21-year-old is coolness personified, as he showed in a fantastic round of 67 on Friday. Starting on the 10th, the Texan birdied four of his first eight holes before a double-bogey six on 18.

His response to that setback was to birdie the very next hole, while a two on the par-three ninth finished off his round nicely.

As The Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman's notes, Spieth is in a fine position to do something very special this weekend:

A victory at Chambers Bay would make him only the second 21-year-old to win more than one major after Gene Sarazen, per BBC Sport.

His cool temperament and tremendous touch on the greens give him every chance of triumphing, and he will not fall away on Saturday.

Prediction: Spieth shoots 68

Branden Grace

Grace does not have a strong record in major championships. His career-best finish was tied for 18th at the Masters in 2013.

However, he is a six-time winner on the European Tour and is a force to be reckoned with in Seattle having shot a one-under 69, followed by a 67.

That is quality golf on an incredibly difficult course, and the 27-year-old is seemingly very relaxed in the environment, per Golf Central:

He certainly has the game to challenge into the weekend, having triumphed previously in similar conditions, per Fox Sports' Aaron Levine:

The only worry for Grace is pressure. He has never been in this situation before at a major championship and will need to handle his nerves if he wants to be in the mix for Sunday.

Prediction: Grace shoots 70.

Dustin Johnson

Just one shot back from the lead, Johnson is a serious threat. His huge hitting has helped him so far at the 2015 U.S. Open, as he has picked up shots on some monster holes, per European Tour:

Not the best of front-runners—see his collapse from the lead at the 2010 U.S. Open—the 30-year-old is positioned ominously ahead of Saturday's play.

However, the American discovered the perils of the afternoon conditions at Chambers Bay on Friday as he dropped three shots in his last five holes for a 71 after an opening-day 65.

There will be no letup on Saturday as Johnson will be in the penultimate group, and the course will likely be set up even harder than in previous rounds.

A consistent challenger at majors but never a winner, Johnson will be in contention over the weekend, but it remains to be seen whether he can grab victory.

Prediction: Johnson shoots 69.
