Arguably the best race of the entire meeting opens proceedings on Tuesday as the Queen Anne Stakes is run, with eight runners going for glory over the straight mile.
A race with a true international flavour, it has been billed as a duel between Hong Kong's Able Friend and France's Solow, both of whom are on long unbeaten runs.
The headline act on the opening day, though, is the St James's Palace Stakes. It's featuring English and Irish 2000 Guineas winner Gleneagles up against French 2000 Guineas winner Make Believe.
It is a small but high-quality field, with Frankie Dettori-ridden Consort set to challenge as well.
| Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Odds |
| Gleneagles | Aidan O'Brien | Ryan Moore | 4-7 |
| Make Believe | Andre Fabre | Olivier Peslier | 10-3 |
| Consort | Sir Michael Stoute | Frankie Dettori | 11-2 |
| Belardo | Roger Varian | James Doyle | 25-1 |
| Aktabantay | Hugo Palmer | Andrea Atzeni | 33-1 |
| Latharnach | Charlie Appleby | William Buick | 40-1 |
Wednesday sees the appearance of USA superstar California Chrome in a hotly anticipated Prince of Wales's Stakes.
Winner of the 2014 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, California Chrome is something of a legend stateside, but he faces a hugely tough task at Ascot up against a very strong field.
Dermot Weld-trained Free Eagle heads the betting for Wednesday's biggest race, and yet again, it is very much an international field, per BBC Sport's Cornelius Lysaght:
Thursday is Gold Cup day, with the gruelling 2 ½-mile race loaded with strong runners.
However, there will be no Brown Panther after an injury forced him to be withdrawn from the field, as announced by breeder and part owner Michael Owen:
Another two Group 1 races are set for Friday with the running of the Commonwealth Cup and the Coronation Stakes—the latter the premier race for fillies, featuring Found, Lucida and Ervedya.
Finally, the headline act on the last day is the six-furlong Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Heading the betting is Australian sprinter Brazen Beau, who will be looking to emulate superstar compatriot Black Caviar's winning performance from 2012.
Truly one of the great events of the racing calendar, Ascot's pomp and ceremony is matched only by the immense quality of the racing on show.
An undeniably British event, this year's Royal Ascot will see a more international field than ever in Berkshire, and it should be all the better for it.
