Kasey Kahne overtook a dominant Kevin Harvick showing in qualifying at Michigan International Speedway to take the pole for the Quicken Loans 400.

It's the third pole triumph at Michigan International Speedway of Kahne's career and his first pole win of the season. He had to be on point to grab the pole, according to Yahoo Sports' Nick Bromberg, posting a 35.645-second lap:

Harvick was the fastest in practice and picked up right where he left off in qualifying, doing so in a hurry, according to NASCAR Stats:

Starting up front bodes well for Kahne. The pole winner has gone on to win the race at Michigan 18 times.

Harvick finished the first round with a top time of 35.748. He went on to run a 10th of a second faster in Round 2, his quickest of the day. His pursuit of extending his record as the only driver in Sprint Cup history to lead all three rounds of qualifying fell short, and he will start second.

The track was loose, and there were a few cars that were battling MIS. Sam Hornish Jr. did well to prevent his rear from hitting the wall in Round 1. Jimmie Johnson and Aric Almirola's cars were seen dancing down the track as well.

Petty Motorsports tweeted this picture of Almirola, who qualified 26th and was having plenty of trouble, speaking with Jamie Little:

Last week's winner at the Axalta 400 at Pocono, Martin Truex Jr., qualified for the third round by four one-hundredths of a second. He'll be starting ninth.
