Adam Bogdan to Liverpool: Latest Transfer Details, Reaction and More
Liverpool have confirmed the free transfer of Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Adam Bogdan following the release of former reserve stopper Brad Jones.
The official Liverpool website confirmed on July 1 that Bogdan's move to Anfield had been completed after his deal with Bolton came to an end:
Bogdan arrived at the Macron Stadium in 2007 and gradually ascended to become Bolton's first choice between the posts, making more than 100 appearances for the Trotters, per Transfermarkt.
Before the transfer was completed, Bogdan penned an open letter to Bolton's fans on the club's official website (via Paul Philbin of the Liverpool Echo) to confirm he was moving to Anfield:
"I would like to say thank you to Bolton Wanderers for giving me the opportunity to fulfil my dream and become a professional football player in England. It was eight years ago when I first came to the club and I feel Bolton have helped make me the player I am today.
[...]
However, I have been given a fantastic chance in my life to join Liverpool Football Club and I would like to make the most of this opportunity. I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my career, but I will never forget the time I have spent at Bolton. I wish everyone associated with the club all the very best.
"
Provided Liverpool aren't planning a shock sale of their first-team goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet will remain Rodgers' No. 1, but the signing of Bogdan hasn't inspired the likes of broadcaster Paul Sarahs or Paul Little of the Irish Daily Star:
"Ings, Milner, Bogdan. Not the most exciting of signings for Liverpool so far.
— Paul Sarahs (@PaulSarahs) June 11, 2015"
The 27-year-old has made 24 Premier League appearances to date, including 20 outings during the 2011-12 season, which was Bolton's last campaign in the top flight. They finished 18th and just one point from survival.
Now back among England's elite, Bogdan may reserve some aspirations of usurping Mignolet, but his low-cost acquisition will serve as little more than replacement as the Reds' No. 2 for now.
The Hungarian's arrival effectively confirms Rodgers will not sign a rival goalkeeper for Mignolet this summer and intends to place faith in his incumbent No. 1.
