LeBron James and Matthew Dellavedova's Secret Handshake Is a Handshake

Dan CarsonJun 8, 2015

Matthew Dellavedova is many things, but a showboating #gloryboy he is not.

The Cleveland Cavaliers point guard is but a humble grit merchant—a purveyor of fine defense, scrappiness and any other blue-collar descriptor you can find in the clearance section at the Peter King antique shop.

Flashiness is just not in Dellavedova, who stuck to Stephen Curry's hip like an insulin pump and helped Cleveland to a 95-93 win over the Golden State Warriors in Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday.

Ever the humble sportsman, Dellavedova settled for eye contact and a firm grip as his reward for a job well done. The native Australian stood in line behind James Jones in the postgame handshake queue and went for the I'll-have-her-home-by-10 clasp with LeBron James in lieu of a time-consuming distraction.

This might be the first time the two met:

Yep, nothing like the ol' "Steve, from accounting...we met at the conference in Dubuque" handshake. We first saw this one in 2013 when President Barack Obama visited Team USA. Not everyone needs to sharpen his mustache to show love:

That's how you get the job done, guys. Dellavedova keeps things simple because he knows any effort he puts into that could otherwise be spent icing his quads and focusing on the next game.

That's how the leader of the "grit squad" is supposed to be.

Dan is on Twitter. He's the leader of the grits squad, because grits are delicious.
