Darryn Peterson's Jazz Jersey Number Revealed in Videos After 2026 NBA Draft Pick
Darryn Peterson's negotiations with Kyle Filipowski for the No. 22 jersey on the Utah Jazz appear to have worked out.
The Jazz unveiled Peterson's new jersey on Saturday after he was selected with the second overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft.
There was some uncertainty about what number Peterson was going to wear in the immediate aftermath of the draft.
After being informed that Filipowski had worn No. 22 since entering the NBA in 2024, Peterson told reporters he was going to see if there was a deal to be made with the Duke alum to switch.
Peterson's fallback plan was going to be a No. 8 jersey in honor of Kobe Bryant until it was pointed out that Isaiah Collier had it.
Ultimately, though, things worked out for Peterson as he gets to retain the number he has used since high school. It's also the same number his father, Darryl Peterson II, donned when he played college basketball at Akron.
Peterson is going to be a centerpiece player in Utah as the franchise's highest-drafted player since Darrell Griffith also went No. 2 overall in 1980.
The Kansas alum joins a promising roster that includes Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ace Bailey. Walker Kessler could be part of that mix if he returns to the Jazz as a restricted free agent.
The Jazz are coming off a 22-60 record in 2025-26 and four consecutive losing seasons, tied for the team's longest such streak since moving to Utah prior to the 1979-80 season.
