Memorial Tournament 2015: Leaderboard Scores and Highlights from Saturday

Mike ChiariJun 6, 2015

By virtue of a six-under 66 on Saturday, Justin Rose closed the third round of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, as the sole leader with an overall score of 15 under par.

The Englishman posted one of the day's best scores, and he now enjoys a three-shot cushion over second-place Francesco Molinari and David Lingmerth entering the fourth and final round. Here is a look at the top of the leaderboard, with the full listing available at PGA.com:

Rose has managed to improve with each passing round during the tournament, as he started with a four-under first round and followed that up with a five-under performance in the second before Saturday's fine showing.

Aside from a bogey on the ninth hole, the 2013 U.S. Open champion was nearly flawless as he carded seven birdies.

According to ESPN.com's Jason Sobel, the biggest reason for Rose's success at Muirfield Village is the fact that he has been locked in on the greens:

It isn't as if the other areas of his game have been lacking, though. The 34-year-old veteran was strong off the tee in the third round, and even when he found himself in trouble, he was able to pull off great shots in order to get out of it.

The 18th hole was a perfect example, where he went from nearly ending up in the water to almost pulling off an eagle, as evidenced by this video from the PGA Tour's official Twitter account:

On the heels of his six-under 66, the 2010 Memorial champion was feeling good about what he accomplished, per his Instagram account:

While Rose was spectacular Saturday, he wasn't even the best golfer on the course, as Kevin Streelman, Keegan Bradley and Dustin Johnson all put in seven-under rounds of 65. They are currently at 10 under, nine under and eight under, respectively, for the tournament, which means they are within striking distance but have plenty of work to do in order to catch Rose.

Johnson was especially happy with his round, as he put himself in position to potentially make a run Sunday:

Aside from Rose's fantastic day, there is no question that the talk of the third round was Tiger Woods' career-worst performance. The 14-time major champion sunk a clutch putt to make the cut Friday, but the momentum didn't carry over.

Tiger shot a 13-over 85, which was by far the worst showing of the day and puts him in last place among golfers who made the cut at 12 over for the tournament. As seen in this tweet, courtesy of the PGA Tour, Woods' round featured six bogeys, two double bogeys and a quadruple bogey on the 18th:

Saturday marked only the third time Woods has shot an 80 or worse as a professional, and ESPN Stats & Info put his third-round implosion into perspective:

Woods has been limited this season as he has dealt with injuries and taken some time off in order to work the kinks out of his game. While he has shown some signs of life at times, Saturday undoubtedly marked rock bottom.

Tiger understandably declined to comment after his frustrating day, but his playing partner, 24-year-old Zac Blair, pretty much said it all, per Sobel:

Woods wasn't alone in his struggles Saturday, as Phil Mickelson also had a rough round. He shot a six-over 78, which puts him at two over for the tournament in a tie for 63rd place.

Golf fans are used to seeing Tiger and Lefty at the top of the leaderboard, but it seems as though a changing of the guard may be taking place with younger golfers excelling.

Masters champion Jordan Spieth is among them, but the 21-year-old phenom doesn't figure to factor into the finish Sunday, as his even-par 72 in the third round leaves him at six under par overall, which is nine shots behind Rose.

While plenty of excellent golfers are within a few shots of Rose, this is his tournament to lose. He has gotten better with each passing day, and if he is able to maintain that trend, nobody will be able to catch him.

With a wily veteran in Jim Furyk lurking four shots behind and defending Memorial champion Hideki Matsuyama five shots back, though, Rose can't afford to rest on his laurels.

Eight players sit at 10 under or better entering the final round of the event, which should make for a thrilling conclusion to the Memorial Tournament.
