NCAA Super Regionals 2015: Schedule and Game Predictions for Saturday's Action

Joe PantornoJun 6, 2015

The 2015 NCAA Super Regionals enters its second day with all 16 teams in play on Saturday. Four teams will be playing for their lives after the round's first day of play on Friday. By weekend's end, only eight teams will remain.

Of the 16 teams left, only eight of them are placed in the nation's top 15 with ranks sinking as low as 99 (VCU).

Here's a look at everything happening on Saturday followed by a closer look into some of the day's biggest games.

A trio of in-state rivalries will be must-watch games as the states of Florida, Texas and more surprisingly, Louisiana, have their own little civil war for collegiate baseball bragging rights.

While their rivalry is a bit more historic on the football field, there's no love lost between sixth-ranked Florida and 10th-ranked Florida State.

The Gators have a pair of bash brothers in catcher JJ Schwarz and outfielder Harrison Bader who rank in the top 30 in home runs hit this season. Schwarz's .320 average ranks second on the team. He'll be looked to as Florida's main source of offense.

He launched a solo shot in last night's win over Florida State.

Before last night's decisive Gator victory, both Florida and the Seminoles were tied for 13th in the nation with 426 runs scored. Michael Baumann of Grantland weighed in on FSU's offense:

With their back against the wall, however, look for Florida State to pull out a win in Game 2.

At 3 p.m. No. 5 Texas A&M plays No. 7 TCU in Game 1 of their best-of-three series.

Texas A&M can hit. Only two other teams in the tournament have higher team batting averages than the Aggies' .305 mark.

TCU can pitch. The Horned Frogs rank second in the nation with a 2.38 team ERA. They also just pulled off a miraculous comeback, storming ahead from an 8-1 deficit to defeat NC State to punch their ticket to the Super Regionals. Former TCU Brandon Finnegan weighed in on the action:

It's a story of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object, and TCU will take Game 1 in a close one.

In an all-Louisiana showdown, fourth-ranked LSU will be taking on Louisiana-Lafayette out of the Sun Belt Conference, ranked 53rd. Lafayette's star player, junior infielder Stefan Trosclair is tied for 10th in the nation with 16 home runs this season.

After sweeping through Houston and in the Regionals, the Ragin' Cajuns get to play big brother. And it is one hot ticket down in Louisiana, as noted by LSU SID Michael Bonnette:

And big brother is ready to go. LSU led the SEC in average, runs, doubles, triples and stolen bases. Not to mention having the least strikeouts.

Their pitching is just as stellar with the conference's best ERA, most wins and least losses.

LSU won the only meeting this year between the two back in March with an 8-6 win. Expect for similar results in the Super Regionals.

Expect to see a close and entertaining series between ninth-ranked Illinois and No. 13 Vanderbilt. Illinois is the only team in the nation with 50 wins, the first time it has done so in history.

While Illinois does not possess a big-time offense, it's had incredible pitching all year, ranking third in ERA. Its pitching staff includes Tyler Jay, who in 60.1 innings pitched has an ERA of .60, which is second best in the country. His teammate, Kevin Duchene has a 1.46 ERA in 98.2 innings. Good for ninth in the nation.
