Former Burnley striker Danny Ings has officially agreed terms on his heavily anticipated move to Liverpool.

The Anfield club announced the news on Monday via their official Twitter feed:

Burnley confirmed the deal had been agreed, but insisted no fee had yet been arranged between the two clubs, per David Hynds of the club's official website.

However, James McMath of the Daily Star reported a figure of £8 million will have to be paid by the Reds after Burnley accepted an offer of "closer to £12 million" from Tottenham.

The 22-year-old scored 11 goals in 35 Premier League appearances last season, per WhoScored.com, establishing himself as one of the better young forwards in the league.

The Clarets were hardly competitive throughout the campaign, however, and it became clear Ings would not be staying with the club once relegation to the Championship became a certainty.

Plenty of clubs showed an interest in the young striker, but Liverpool were always the favourites to land his signature. Real Sociedad were often mentioned as a potential destination as well, but the Spanish side admitted early in June that a transfer would be unlikely, via Tom Olver of Metro Sport.

The Reds will ask only one thing of Ings going into next season, and that is to score goals. The club's strikers failed to consistently deliver as a group last season, and as a result, Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League during the group stages and failed to qualify for next year's edition of the tournament.

Whether the signing of Ings will be enough to lead the Reds back to Europe's top club competition is debatable. As talented as he is, Ings is young, inexperienced and untested at a top club.

The Sunday Times' Jonathan Northcroft took a look at Liverpool's recent signings, and while he liked the arrivals of Ings and James Milner, he believes more is needed:

Ings likely won't be an immediate starter next season, although he will have plenty of chances to change the manager's mind during the summer. Paired with Daniel Sturridge, he could give the Reds a solid attacking duo with the potential of plenty of goals.

Like the signing of Milner, Ings is a smart, cheap investment that carries few risks. The forward will at the very least offer some goals next season and should develop into a fine player.
