Belmont Stakes 2015 Post Time: Start Time, Schedule and More for 147th Race
In less than a week, we will know if American Pharoah has what it takes to become the first horse in 37 years to win the Triple Crown or whether he'll be just the latest in a long line of thoroughbreds that flirted with immortality.
After winning the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, American Pharoah is the clear favorite to win in Elmont, New York, per Odds Shark. Then again, so was California Chrome last year when he fell short.
Legendary jockey Ron Turcotte—who rode Secretariat to the Triple Crown in 1973—believes American Pharoah has the versatility to win the Belmont. Per Steve Petrella of the Sporting News, Turcotte said: "He seems to be very versatile to me. You can place him whenever you want in a race, then just let him gallop on. Only a couple horses can do that, but he seems to be that kind of horse."
Anyone with at least a basic interest in the sport will likely be watching on Saturday. For those who won't be in New York to see the race in person, here's the viewing information and time details needed to catch the final leg of the 2015 Triple Crown races.

Top Threats to American Pharoah's Cause
Frosted

Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, Frosted sat out the Preakness Stakes after finishing fourth at the Kentucky Derby. He won the Wood Memorial leading up to the Derby but was disappointing at Churchill Downs. He's shown flashes throughout the year, but his inconsistency makes him a shaky choice.
McLaughlin knows his horse must be at his best to play spoiler. Per Ron Mitchell of the Blood-Horse, McLaughlin said:
"We have to have an 'A-plus' day and he has to have a 'B' day. But it's a mile-and-a-half, it's a different race over a different track and we're here. We're as close to the paddock as you can get. So it's nice just to walk through the tunnel and be at the paddock.
"
Having not run in the Preakness, Frosted could have an advantage over American Pharoah. In a race that's the longest of all the Triple Crown events, it seems McLaughlin is hoping stamina becomes a factor.
Materiality

At the Derby, Materiality finished sixth, and like Frosted, he was kept out of the Preakness Stakes by his trainer Todd A. Pletcher. Unlike Frosted, Materiality had been dominant in his starts prior to the Derby. In fact, he had won all three races he'd raced in 2015 before the underwhelming showing at Churchill Downs.
Of the two horses most often believed to be the top competition for American Pharoah at the Belmont, Materiality seems to be the most dangerous.
Soon all of the guesswork will be done, and it'll be time for one of these dynamic three-year-olds to show and prove as the world looks on.
