IPL 2015: Stats on Top Run-Scorers, Leading Wicket-Takers, T20 Averages, More
Bottom side Kings XI Punjab took advantage of a rain-reduced game to bag a shock 22-run win over playoff hopefuls Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The weather meant this tie was shortened to 10 overs a side, and Wriddhiman Saha got Punjab off to a scintillating start, helping push his side to a total of 106 for six. It was a total which Bangalore’s stellar batting lineup looked capable of chasing down, but they crumbled to 84 for six on a tough wicket.
Here are how this game has affected a variety of individual classifications and a closer examination of some of the standout performers from this surprise result.

Standout Performers

Wriddhiman Saha Gets Punjab Going
The tempo was always going to be vital in this shortened match, and after Punjab put him in after losing the toss, Wriddhiman Saha gave them a perfect platform to build upon.
He came out swinging at the top of the order, smashing boundaries for fun and putting the Bangalore bowlers under major pressure. His 31 came off just 12 balls, including five fours and one six.
As noted by HoldingWilleyCricket, by the time the end of the innings came around, the damage had already been done:
"Mitchell Starc bowling the last over. Still. Damage already done by Saha, with most everyone else chipping in with teens. #KXIPvRCB #IPL

If anything, Kings XI should have done more with the foundations set by Saha. When he departed, Punjab were flying on 34 for one, but no other batsman in the XI was able to make an impact that compared to the opener.
Given how AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli all failed to score big runs during Bangalore’s chase, great credit must go to Saha for making runs on what was clearly a difficult pitch. Ultimately, it was his brief showing of clean ball-striking that was the difference between these two teams.
Axar Patel Finishes the Job
Even though Kings XI scored in excess of 100 runs in their 60 balls, given the quality of the Bangalore batting lineup, it was always going to be a testing total to defend.
But as the match went on, the wicket seemed to get stickier, and as such, the batsmen really struggled to get any timing into their shots. So perhaps it was no surprise to see the astute spin bowling of Axar Patel fare so well as the Royal Challengers attempted to chase down a target of 107.
As noted by cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, Patel’s bowling meant he was a big contender for Man of the Match:
"Man of the match: Axar Patel? #KingsXI #PepsiIPL
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) May 13, 2015"
Eventually, he finished up with figures of two wickets for 11 runs from an allotted two overs. With Bangalore’s array of superstars swinging hard at the ball, to restrict them to such a meagre amount of runs—including just one boundary from Patel's deliveries—was very impressive indeed.
In a poor campaign, Patel has been one of Kings XI’s best performers. At 21 years old, his displays will at least give those associated with the team something to look forward to next season, when they will surely fare much better than they have done this time around.
