Hazard previously captured the PFA Player of the Year award, as reported by Nick Miller of the Guardian. He joins an elite club list in landing the Football Writers' prize, as tweeted by Eurosport:
"Eden Hazard is the first Chelsea player to be named Footballer of he Year since Lampard in 2005. Before that, Zola in 1997

James Olley of the London Evening Standard confirmed a London-based top three:
Eternally dangerous from the left flank, Hazard has scored 14 goals and provided eight assists in 36 appearances for Chelsea this season, per WhoScored.com. He scores a huge variation of strikes—from long-range thunderbolts to darting runs and penalties—and has added consistency to his game this campaign.
In turn, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has provided the 24-year-old with greater responsibility, as highlighted by his appearance in every single match this term.

Chelsea centre-back John Terry has put together an excellent run of form, having also played in every encounter. He was overlooked by the PFA's shortlist, as reported by BBC Sport, but received the recognition of football writers to finish third behind Hazard and Tottenham's 20-goal youngster Harry Kane.
Hazard and Terry can be considered Chelsea's most important players this season. Both are leaders and match-winners in their own right. While Hazard's explosive attacking ability always appeared likely to capture the prize, Terry's more subtle influence cannot be overlooked.
Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale and Robin van Persie won the last three FWA awards before Hazard, who has now joined an exclusive club.
