Rickie Fowler, Girlfriend Alexis Randock Kiss After 2015 Players Championship

Matt FitzgeraldMay 11, 2015

The cluster of PGA Tour peers who felt compelled to label Rickie Fowler as the most overrated golfer on the circuit may need to do some reevaluating after the 2015 Players Championship.

Not only did Fowler close out his final round in epic style and collect himself well enough to win in a three-way playoff, but he was also greeted on the par-three 17th green by his model girlfriend, Alexis Randock. The couple shared a victory kiss.

The tour's official YouTube account captured footage of Randock meeting Fowler at the tail end of the following clip, which shows his winning birdie to best Kevin Kisner:

Kyle Porter of CBS Sports reported what Randock had to say afterward about the intense finish that saw her significant other pick up his second PGA Tour win:

Fowler appeared to be out of contention on the back nine Sunday at TPC Sawgrass, but he roared back with a record-setting finish.

After birdieing the par-four 15th, a bold second shot to No. 16 settled within three feet of the cup, leading to an eagle. Then Fowler stuffed it close at the intimidating 17th, bombed a drive on the 72nd hole and calmly drained a downhill left-to-right putt to cap his five-under 67 final round with yet another birdie.

The 11 strokes Fowler took on the final four holes is a Players Championship record. Despite that unprecedented finish, Kisner and past tournament winner Sergio Garcia still had enough holes to catch Fowler at 12 under par overall, forcing the extra holes.

Undaunted by having to play even more on the heels of such a marvelous conclusion to his round in regulation, Fowler stepped back onto the course and sealed the deal.

Golf Channel's Justin Ray highlighted how Fowler tends to have a flair for the dramatic:

Falling just short at the majors last season—top-fives in all four events without a win—appeared to take a toll on Fowler during the first part of the 2014-15 campaign. The 26-year-old star hadn't had a stateside top 10 in a stroke-play tournament, though he did tie ninth at the WGC-Match Play Championship.

Although Fowler has said he laughed off the "overrated" talk from the player poll, it had to have something to do with how hot he got down the stretch in Ponte Vedra Beach. Now he's the reigning champion of what's often labeled the fifth major.

It looks like Fowler can go ahead and laugh off anyone criticizing, well, any part of his life. A rise to ninth in the world rankings and a strong support system featuring Randock have to have Fowler in a great frame of mind and perhaps poised to win with far more regularity moving forward.
