The Players Championship 2015: Full Cut Line List of Players Removed
A little less than a month ago, Jordan Spieth put on his first, and likely not last, green jacket after winning the 2015 Masters. In the three tournaments since, the 21-year-old has failed to capture that same magic, culminating with Friday's missed cut at the 2015 Players Championship.
Spieth's poor first round ultimately doomed him. Despite a somewhat up and down Round 2, he still finished at even par. But it wasn't good enough for Spieth to get above the line after his 3-over 75 in Round 1. He was one of a number of stars removed from contention heading into the weekend.

Yesterday, Spieth discussed what went wrong during his first round, per Steve DiMeglio of USA Today:
"Really tough ball-striking day. I just couldn't find anything, really since I have gotten here on Monday. I mentioned it in the press conference that I was struggling hitting the ball this week; that I was looking for something in my alignment. I just didn't quite trust it today until I was already too far behind the 8-ball.
"
On Friday, it was one step forward, one step back for Spieth. He followed each of his three birdies with a bogey. After he carded a bogey on No. 14, that all but confirmed he wouldn't be making an appearance this weekend. According to Golf Channel's Justin Ray, he's the first Masters champion in a little over a decade to turn around and miss the cut at the Players Championship:
As GolfChannel.com's Will Gray noted, though, Spieth was in rather good company:
Phil Mickelson never really got into a groove at TPC Sawgrass. His opening-round 73 gave him a tough hill to climb Friday, and a second-round 76 didn't help matters. The 18th hole in particular was Mickelson's nemesis over the last two days, per ESPN Stats & Info:
The 44-year-old at least made light of his struggles this year and his recent failures at the tournament, per ESPN.com's Bob Harig:
One of the bigger surprises among those to miss the cut was Jason Day. After the first 18 holes, he was at a respectable three-under. Then, the wheels completely came off Friday. Day had a complete meltdown over his first four holes, per Ron Green Jr. of Global Golf Post:
He finished with a nine-under 81 for the round.
After his great start to 2015, Day's results have tailed off a bit. He finished 31st at the WGC-Cadillac Championship and followed up with a 17th-place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. His tie for 28th at the Masters was also his worst four-round performance at Augusta.
It wouldn't be fair to say that Day is in a slump, but he has failed to meet the standard he set for himself last year.
The same could be said for Mickelson, who has had a somewhat disappointing year, his runner-up finish at the Masters aside. He has missed three cuts and one top-10 finish in nine PGA Tour events this year.
The beauty of Mickelson, though, is that he can go from missing the cut one week to one of the most unstoppable golfers in the world in the span of a week or two. He probably won't be too downtrodden after missing out on the final two rounds of the Players Championship.
