Floyd Mayweather Takes Shot at Manny Pacquiao Over Injury 'Excuses'

Nick AkermanMay 6, 2015

Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn't taking kindly to Manny Pacquiao's "excuses" after beating him in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Pretty Boy extended his unbeaten record to 48-0 with a unanimous-decision win, but Pacquiao and his camp have suggested a right shoulder injury stopped the Filipino from executing his game plan. Floyd expressed his thoughts on Instagram:

Pacquiao was denied an anti-inflammatory shot before the bout after he failed to disclose his shoulder problem to the Nevada Athletic Commission. Pacquiao's camp maintains the United States Anti-Doping Agency was made aware, as reported by BBC Sport.

However, Travis Tygart, CEO of the USADA, told The Associated Press (via Des Bieler of The Washington Post) this isn't true: "We had no medical information, no MRIs, no documents."

Pacquiao "could be fined or suspended," according to Bieler, but worse yet, he may face a felony charge. Cisco Aguilar, chairman of the NAC, implied Pacquiao could be charged with deliberately misleading officials heading into the fight, as reported by Christian Red and Mitch Abraham of the Daily News:

"

Disclosure is a big thing for us, and honesty. The commission at some point will have to discuss (Pacquiao's medical questionnaire). I've got to run through the process with the (Nevada) Attorney General (Adam Laxalt). But they do sign that document under the penalty of perjury.

"

Two fans have filed a class-action suit against Pac-Man over his failure to disclose his fitness, as reported by Sky Sports. Stephane Vanel and Kami Rahbaran are looking to receive $5 million (£3.2 million) on behalf of "all persons who purchased tickets, purchased the pay-per-view event or who wagered money on the event," per Sky Sports.

Lawyer Daniel Petrocelli, who represents Top Rank (the company that promotes Pacquiao), told ESPN (h/t Sky Sports), "The allegations in this lawsuit are demonstrably false."

What cannot be disputed is Mayweather's victory. Money brilliantly neutralised Pacquiao's threat from the off, remaining elusive even in the moments when his opponent seemed to gain a little momentum. Floyd picked his shots well and used his jab to keep Pacquiao away from closing the gap needed to unleash a flurry of activity.

Pacquiao fought with a lack of intensity and rigidness, which left him open to the counter. Mayweather has overcome far more difficult nights during his career and will be extremely confident of inflicting further damage on Pacquiao if the two meet again. He had plenty of power and energy left in the tank when the final bell sounded.

Bleacher Report's Adam Lefkoe and Corey Erdman of Fight Network discussed the encounter:

Mayweather's Instagram comments add to a somewhat dramatic post-fight storyline. Those looking for a rematch are sure to be getting excited, as the rumblings of an extended feud are obvious.

Pacquiao's injury is likely to keep him sidelined well beyond the September date Floyd set for his last fight, per Bryan Graham of The Guardian, so something's got to give if we're to see the two in the ring together again.
