Kentucky Derby 2015 Contenders: Odds, Jockey and Pedigree Info for Top Favorites
Legends are made at the Kentucky Derby, and the field for the 141st Run for the Roses includes a horse that is being tipped to go down in history.
American Pharoah is the favourite ahead of Saturday's race, and the hype surrounding the colt is huge. But it will by no means be a formality at Churchill Downs, with Dortmund and Carpe Diem close behind in the betting.
A strong field is set for the race, with each horse hoping to emulate California Chrome, who won in 2014.
Read on for a look at the latest odds for the 20 horses along with jockey information and pedigree details for the favourites.

American Pharoah

American Pharoah has a serious pedigree that stretches back to 1990, when his great-grandsire, Unbridled, won the Kentucky Derby.
Pharoah's sire, Pioneerof the Nile, finished second in the 2009 Derby and was sired by 2003 Belmont Stakes winner Empire Maker.
It is clear, then, why the Bob Baffert-trained colt is being so hotly tipped. If familial links are anything to go by, he must be some horse.
And Pharoah has proved as much with four career wins out of five, including an eight-length victory at April's Arkansas Derby, as shown below:
He will be jockeyed by last year's winner, Victor Espinoza—who also triumphed aboard War Emblem in 2002.
It is a winning combination that adds up to a Kentucky Derby favourite. But it remains to be seen whether American Pharoah will live up to the hype.
Dortmund

Another Bob Baffert-trained horse, Dortmund is a strong, imposing colt and a serious contender for victory in the first leg of the Triple Crown.
Dortmund is sired by Big Brown, who was close to Triple Crown glory in 2008 before pulling up in the Belmont Stakes with a foot problem.
Big Brown had previously won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.
A serial winner, Dortmund has not suffered a defeat in six career races, triumphing in all of his outings so far, per racing analyst Joe Kristufek:
He was mightily impressive in the Santa Anita Derby—his last race out—winning by over four lengths despite losing a shoe.
Baffert has two stunning horses in this year's Derby, and Dortmund should push American Pharoah all the way.
Carpe Diem

Away from the Bob Baffert stable, Carpe Diem is the most likely challenger for the 2015 Kentucky Derby.
Trained by Todd Pletcher—winner of the 2010 Kentucky Derby with Super Saver—Carpe Diem has won four of five races. His only defeat was a second-place finish to Texas Red at the the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
The colt triumphed in April's Blue Grass Stakes and looks to have many of the qualities of sire Giant's Causeway.
Giant's Causeway raced mainly in Europe but was famous for his resilience and stamina, which saw him enjoy a successful career.
Carpe Diem will be a tough opponent for favourites Pharoah and Dortmund on Saturday and is Pletcher's best chance of glory out of his four horses running.
