IPL 2015 Results: Scores, Points Table, Fixture Schedule and Playoff Outlook
Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up their third win of the 2015 Indian Premier League, securing a comfortable 20-run victory over rock-bottom Kings XI Punjab.
David Warner was the standout player once again for the Sunrisers, as he led from the front with some brutish hitting. But as has been the case throughout the tournament, the middle order were unable to capitalise on an excellent platform, and they stumbled to a meagre total of 150 for six.
Kings XI struggled in their response, though. They lost four wickets inside nine overs after some calamitous dismissals and astute Hyderabad bowling. It was a collapse they never recovered from, eventually finishing up 130 for nine.
Read on for a thorough recap of how the action played out in Mohali and a look at how this win for Hyderabad affects the overall standings.

Hyderabad Pile More Misery on Kings XI
3 of 3
Hyderabad Sunrises (150/6) beat Kings XI Punjab (130/9) by 20 runs
After putting Sunrisers Hyderabad into bat, Kings XI Punjab would have been desperate to make some inroads against the dynamic opening duo of David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan. As we can see here, courtesy of Freddie Wilde of ESPNcricinfo, the Sunrisers have been hugely reliant on their form:
"David Warner & Shikhar Dhawan have scored 47.6% of #SRH in this #IPL. #KXIPvSRH #KXIP
— Freddie Wilde (@fwildecricket) April 27, 2015"
So George Bailey will have been delighted to see the back of Dhawan in the second over for just one, as he fell victim to Aussie left-armer Mitchell Johnson. After that early setback, it was always going to be about Warner for Hyderabad, and thankfully, for their supporters, the skipper relished the challenge.
Despite losing Hanuma Vihari in the sixth over, the captain smashed 10 fours and one six in an entertaining 58 from 41 balls, giving his middle order a foundation to flourish. But once again, Hyderabad struggled to pile on late runs.
Both Moises Henriques and Naman Ojha hit decent knocks of 30 and 28, respectively, but the arduous pace they scored at would have delighted Kings XI Punjab, who seemed well in control. Indeed, it was only when Ashish Reddy came to the crease late on that they found some kind of momentum with the bat.
As noted by CricBuzz, his late flourish helped Hyderabad to a respectable final total of 150 for six:
"2 4 1 1 1 6 6 1. 7-ball 22 from Ashish Reddy helps #SRH finish with a respectable 150 on the board. But is it enough? #CB #IPL #KXIPvSRH
— Cricbuzz (@cricbuzz) April 27, 2015"
When defending a meagre score, it’s vital to put some pressure on the opposition batsmen early. That’s exactly what the Sunrisers did, with Trent Boult and Bhuvneshwar Kumar shining with the new ball.
In the third over, the New Zealand left-armer dismissed the dangerous Manan Vohra for just one after he played on to his own stumps, and just a few balls later, the Indian sneaked one past Shaun Marsh, who could only make five. After the late hitting from Reddy and this scintillating start, momentum was now firmly behind the Sunrisers.
Despite their struggles, Punjab still have quality batsmen and Bailey was in next, looking to settle the nerves of his side. But he was snaffled off the bowling of Henriques for 22, before Kings XI’s effort descended into disarray the very next over, with a mix-up between Murali Vijay and David Miller seeing the former run out.
The team’s official Twitter feed put the wicket down to plain bad luck, though:
"Run out! Bad luck. @mvj888 scored 12. #KXIP #IPL #KXIPvSRH
— Kings XI Punjab (@lionsdenkxip) April 27, 2015"
Even after the run-out shambles, things got worse for Kings XI. Miller—who is extremely dangerous in these situations—was next out for 15, as he skied one off Karn Sharma trying to up the ante.
Wriddhiman Saha kept his side's chances alive with some big hitting alongside Axar Patel, but then, Warner turned to Boult. The fast bowler superbly took the wickets of both aforementioned batsmen in the 18th over, extinguishing any lingering hopes of a Kings XI victory. Eventually, Punjab finished up 130 for nine, 20 runs short of Hyderabad's mark.
The team's official Twitter account paid tribute to Boult, who had excellent figures:
"What a brilliant over from Trent Boult 4 overs 3/19 #OrangeArmy #SRH #KXIPvsSRH
— SunRisers Hyderabad (@SunRisers) April 27, 2015"
While this was a decent win for Hyderabad, it would be a major surprise to see either of these two teams challenging for this championship by the time the playoffs come around. Both are far too reliant on individual performances, struggle to keep wickets intact and are sluggish in the field.
From Warner’s point of view, this win could be a springboard to better things in this year’s competition. But it’s abundantly clear that even in victory, major steps need to be made if they’re to be in the mix for eventual glory in the 2015 IPL.
