Opener Iqbal made 132, his fifth one-day international century, and 'keeper Rahim made a rapid 106 to spearhead the Tigers’ innings.

The pair put on 178 for the third wicket after Soumya Sarkar was run out for 20 and Mahmudullah (5) was clean bowled by Rahat Ali—the latter deceived by a slower ball.

Iqbal crashed 15 boundaries and three sixes in his 135-ball innings before an attempted pull, off Wahab Riaz in the 42nd over, only resulted in a skied catch taken by Mohammad Rizwan.

Rahim went on to complete his third limited overs ton from only 69 balls, featuring 13 boundaries and two sixes, before he edged Riaz to Sarfraz Ahmed behind the stumps.

A late flurry from Shakib Al Hasan (31) and Sabbir Rahman (15) meant Pakistan were chasing more than 6.5 runs an over.

Pakistan’s openers put on 52 in the powerplay, but Sarfraz Ahmed (24) was caught on the boundary off Arafat Sunny, and 11 balls later, Mohammad Hafeez (4) was run out.

Ali, replacing Misbah-ul-Haq as Pakistan captain in a much changed side after their quarter-final exit at the World Cup, made 72 at the top of the innings before edging Taskin Ahmed behind in the 28th over.

Ahmed then removed Haris Sohail (51) before Sunny dismissed Fawad Alam (14) and Saad Nasim (0) in the 40th over.

Pakistan needed 113 from the final 10 overs but lost a flurry of wickets in the pursuit of quick runs, with Mohammad Rizwan’s dismissal for 67 effectively ending their hopes.

The three-match series continues on Sunday.
