WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for April 16
With Extreme Rules rapidly approaching, it is becoming more and more imperative for WWE Creative to put together shows that reflect the biggest matches and stars slated for the April 26 pay-per-view.
One look at this week's SmackDown tapings suggests failure on the writers' part.
Huge stars such as intercontinental champion Daniel Bryan and United States champion John Cena are present on the card, but little is made of their upcoming title defenses. Instead, they are relegated to tag team action.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Undercard talent such as Fandango, Adam Rose, R-Truth and Cameron dominate the card, while Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Rusev were busy touring other parts of the United Kingdom.
While it will create fresh programming, with faces that have not been overexposed in recent months, this episode of SmackDown is not likely to have any long-term effect on WWE's plans.
Unless Fandango inexplicably becomes the next big babyface in sports entertainment.

Analysis
While a much more compact and focused show than Monday's Raw, this week's SmackDown still suffers from the same head-scratching booking decisions that the premiere show in sports entertainment did.
Tyson Kidd and Cesaro, the current WWE tag team champions, were again sacrificed for no reason other than to put over two established main event stars in John Cena and Daniel Bryan, as if to remind fans where the talented in-ring stars fall in the grand scheme of things.
Fandango's sudden babyface turn is interesting, but it's unlikely to result in better card positioning for him. If anything, it is an opportunity to get the performer some face time in front of his hottest crowd. Speaking of fan favorites, Bad News Barrett's win over perennial heel The Miz appears to be little more than a way to make up for Monday's loss to Cena.
At the very least, the in-ring action featuring Neville, Sheamus, Cena, Bryan and the tag champions should give audiences enough reason to tune in. But do not be surprised if, a week from now, much of what happens is forgotten.
