Atlanta Hawks Sign Young Leukemia Patient to 1-Day Contract

Dan CarsonApr 6, 2015

Just in time for the postseason, the Atlanta Hawks have signed vaunted free-agent guard Lake B. to a one-day contract.

The Hawks announced the deal Monday morning, confirming the young leukemia patient would join the team for a 24-hour stretch as they prepare to host the Phoenix Suns Tuesday:

Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer will make the official announcement Tuesday morning. Until then, Lake will be hanging with Harry the Hawk and the Atlanta cheerleaders.

Atlanta’s front office surprised everyone with the signing—most of all Lake, whom representatives from Atlanta radio program The Bert Show woke up Monday morning and whisked away in a bus for an unofficial meeting with Hawks owner/CEO Steve Koonin.

No one saw a power move of this caliber coming so late in the season. Lake, a talented young player with all the makings of a future All-Star, comes as additional firepower to a Hawks team double-stuffed with gifted players.

On Thursday, the Atlanta Hawks made Lake's signing official.

Atlanta already has the Eastern Conference firmly locked down. Consider Lake’s signing another padlock on the door.

Dan is on Twitter. He assumes 2 Chainz was behind this genius.
