Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti Comments on NFL's Old Domestic Violence Policy

Tim DanielsApr 2, 2015

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti stated during a conference call with some of the team's season-ticket holders Wednesday that he's "embarrassed" with how domestic violence was previously categorized by the league and his franchise.

Jamison Hensley of ESPN passed along the comments from Bisciotti:

"

I think that we were pretty stupid not to recognize domestic violence as a category by itself. No other infractions—failed drug tests, bar fights or DUIs—nothing to me should rise to that level. I'm embarrassed to say that they were lumped together. So, I'm happy that we found ourselves comfortable taking that categorically and putting it into at the top of the list as something that is just unacceptable.

Bisciotti said he still has some regrets with how the Ray Rice situation was handled by the organization. It started with not pushing to see the video sooner, and then allowing the process to drag out by not releasing him immediately.

He also discussed how the learning experience has changed the front office's outlook in terms of which players it targets, the ESPN report notes.

"I think it's changing our draft board and it certainly is going to change the free agents that we're looking at," Bisciotti said.
