WWE WrestleMania 31: Breaking Down Best and Worst Moments from PPV

Aaron BowerMar 31, 2015

Even though it's the biggest show of the year by some distance, WrestleMania does have plenty in common with the other shows on the calendar.

And although there's more hype, a bigger crowd and more excitement at Mania than on any other WWE stage, there's still the possibility for some hit-and-miss moments throughout.

WrestleMania often provides plenty of high points, and the 31st edition certainly managed to have a few moments that will stand the test of time.

However, there were some low points too, although admittedly these were few and far between.

Let's take a look at some of the very best and very worst moments from this year's extravaganza.

Best: The Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match

1 of 6

The opening match of the night at WrestleMania always carries plenty of pressure, and this year, the contest for the Intercontinental Championship certainly didn't disappoint.

It was a classic from start to finish and included some pretty incredible spots from some of the WWE's most daring and captivating competitors.

Chief among them was Dean Ambrose's taking the mother of all powerbombs from Luke Harper. He was sent through a ladder and was almost broken in half.

Of course, there was plenty elsewhere for WWE fans to get excited about, including the finish involving two of their most popular competitors.

In many ways, there was an element of justice in having Daniel Bryan and Dean Ambrose as the two men who were battling at the top of the ladder for the championship, and Bryan's success created another significant WrestleMania moment for the leader of the Yes Movement, 12 months on from his crowning glory at WrestleMania 30.

Best: THAT Randy Orton RKO

2 of 6

It may not have been the best match on the card, but the finish to Seth Rollins' match with Randy Orton will stand out as one of the highlights of the night.

Both guys are incredibly athletic, which makes moments like this a possibility whenever they step into the ring together.

But boy, this will take some topping.

When Rollins leaped up after attempting a Curb Stomp, Orton's reaction and rapid RKO on the future WWE World Heavyweight Champion was arguably the greatest execution of this move in the history of Orton's career.

The Internet certainly seemed to think so, as Twitter went into meltdown not long after Orton had picked up the win.

It was a true WrestleMania moment.

Worst: WWE's Not Giving Divas a Chance

3 of 6

If you're familiar with Twitter and the trending #GiveDivasAChance hashtag, you'd have probably been part of the camp that expected AJ Lee and Paige vs. The Bella Twins to get some significant airtime.

After all, the final couple of weeks heading toward WrestleMania had been promising and seemed to suggest we were in for a classic from four talented Divas.

However, that didn't transpire, as the match we were treated to at WrestleMania resembled little more than a standard tag match from Raw.

That was hardly the exposure the Divas division needed, and it's left the whole state of women's wrestling in WWE feeling a little flat.

After a disappointing WrestleMania for the Divas, it'll be interesting to see where WWE goes next.

Best: DX vs. New World Order

4 of 6

Sting vs. Triple H was always going to have a couple of brilliant twists in there, but nobody expected anything quite this good.

With the two men putting on a pretty decent spectacle, we were given a whole host of invasions, with two of the greatest factions in wrestling history going toe-to-toe.

It was good enough seeing DX come down and make the save for Triple H, but when the NWO's music hit, you knew you were in for something special.

And that wasn't all, either. After DX and the NWO had gone at it at ringside, out came Shawn Michaels to make yet another save for Triple H.

The result may be a disappointment for some, but having so many legends involved in one match was something to truly remember.

Worst: Another Timid and Predictable John Cena Match

5 of 6

We all knew John Cena would win at WrestleMania and end Rusev's almighty undefeated streak, but perhaps not in as unconvincing and typical a manner as he actually did.

It was a pretty substandard match in truth, a contest that never really seemed to get out of first gear.

Rusev's entrance was pretty impressive, but when the bell rang, there was not a lot to scream and shout about.

And after it all, Rusev is now left with the challenge of not ending up like so many of Cena's victims in the past.

He has the talent, and he certainly has the gimmick. Hopefully WWE will continue to make Rusev look strong in the coming months, because this defeat didn't really do much for him, sadly.

And Cena? Well, he rolls on with another championship around his waist after a pretty forgettable match.

Best: The Magnificent Ending

6 of 6

It seemed unlikely WWE was going to pull off such a wonderful and brilliant ending a couple of weeks ago.

Roman Reigns' contest with Brock Lesnar looked doomed to fail, and nobody even knew if Lesnar was sticking around.

However, looking back at how WrestleMania came to an end, WWE have an incredible platform from which to build.

Instead of pinning the title on Reigns, WWE has a champion who is legitimately one of the biggest stars in the company. That's not to say Reigns isn't, of course, but Rollins just seems to fit the mold of a champion at this moment in time.

From Lesnar's brutality throughout the main event right through to Rollins' outrageously brilliant cash-in, this was a WrestleMania ending fans will simply never forget.
