Chelsea Transfer News: Major Rumours on Jose Mourinho's Likely Summer Deals

Gianni VerschuerenMar 29, 2015

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has highlighted six possible transfer destinations for star striker Paulo Dybala this summer, and Chelsea are among the list of suitors for a summer move.

As shared by ESPN FC, the list includes several top clubs, with Juventus also mentioned specifically by Zamparini:

The 21-year-old striker is expected to depart Sicily at the end of the season, with Palermo hoping to receive at least €40 million for his services. Italian champions Juventus were previously seen as favourites to land the Argentinian, but per Football Italia, Zamparini has no interest in their offer, which consists of several players on top of cash:

Dybala is frequently compared with compatriot Sergio Aguero for his direct playing style, change-of-pace skills and excellent eye for goal, and while he lacks the big frame of the Manchester City ace, he plays the game in a very similar way.

He can play as a striker or off a target man, and has the raw athleticism to be used in a wide role as well. The Blues don't have a need for another star forward, but Dybala's incredible upside means Jose Mourinho could decide to move, regardless.

FourFourTwo's Adam Digby thinks team-mate Franco Vazquez would actually be a smarter investment for teams:

Dybala remains a risky transfer target, and while Chelsea can afford to gamble on youngsters from time to time, the massive fee requested may keep the club from launching a bid for a player it doesn't particularly need.

Should an offer—and subsequent transfer—materialise, expect to see some growing pains from the raw youngster.

Everton Won't Budge On Ross Barkley Asking Price

According to the Daily Star's Steve Millar, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley will not be leaving the club for any fee below £50 million, with Chelsea and Manchester City reportedly interested.

The report goes on to state manager Roberto Martinez doesn't want to sell the England international at all costs, explaining the sky-high price tag.

Barkley isn't enjoying a great campaign in 2014-15, but he remains one of the more talented young players in the Premier League. Sky Sports' Jamie Redknapp still believes in the 21-year-old and his ability to be a difference-maker for England, although it will take time:

There's no denying Barkley's talent, but £50 million for a relatively unproven player whose biggest asset is "potential" is an absurd price. He has scored two goals and handed out two assists all season, per WhoScored.com—those numbers don't even warrant £20 million, let alone more than double that.

As Anthony Jepson wrote for Manchester Evening News (via Manchester City News), Citizens manager Manuel Pellegrini is right to baulk at that price tag, and so should Mourinho:

Martinez is simply trying to scare off teams before they have a chance to talk to Barkley, but once the season comes to an end, expect that transfer fee to become a little more flexible.

Surprise Bid For Alex Song?

According to Catalan newspaper Sport (h/t Metro's Lewis Rudd), West Ham United have no intention of making Alex Song's loan move permanent, and Chelsea could jump in and pry the midfielder away from Barcelona for £10 million.

The Ivory Coast international would be used as a backup for Nemanja Matic or Cesc Fabregas and would be open to the idea of staying in London.

Now, this transfer rumour actually makes some sense. Song is a serviceable player who would fare well as a backup, and for a bargain price, it could be worth adding an experienced, veteran player. But as shared by Sport Witness, it all sounds a little to neat:

Sport are a Catalan newspaper, and on this occasion, it shows. Chelsea have Ruben Loftus-Cheek coming up through the youth ranks, as well as Marco van Ginkel out on loan. The club has plenty of cover for the position heading into next season—there's no need to spend on another midfielder.

Again, adding Song's experience to the squad wouldn't be a bad idea, but with Loftus-Cheek in particular looking like a future stud, the presence of the Ivorian would only slow down his development. Don't expect this rumour to turn into news of a transfer.
