Bracket
Schedule
| 2:20 p.m. | (7) Michigan St vs (4) Louisville | CBS | Michigan State |
| 5:05 PM | (2) Gonzaga vs (1) Duke | CBS | Duke |
Predictions
Duke and Gonzaga have a lot of similarities.
Duke has the third-most efficient offense in college basketball, per KenPom.com. Gonzaga is No. 4. Duke has the 27th-most efficient defense. Gonzaga is 30th. Duke scores 80.6 points per game, fourth in the nation. Gonzaga scores 79.1, which is 10th. Duke is 21st in assists per game and third in field-goal percentage; Gonzaga is sixth and first, respectively.
Can you say offensive fireworks?
There are differences, of course. Gonzaga is the better rebounding squad. Duke is far more battle-tested against top competition and has the best player in the contest in Jahlil Okafor and perhaps the second-best player in Justise Winslow.
Winslow might be the difference in this one. Despite Okafor struggling against a good Utah defense in the Sweet 16, Winslow scored 21 points and added 10 rebounds, leading Duke to a win on a night when he had 100 friends and family members in the stands watching him.
“He’s been locked in even with all the distractions going on here, his family, his birthday,” Duke guard Quinn Cook told Thayer Evans of Sports Illustrated about Winslow. “It’s easy to get distracted, especially as a 19-year-old freshman. He’s been in his room the whole time just really focusing. When he’s locked in like that, we’re a tough team.”

Gonzaga is no slouch. Kyle Wiltjer and Kevin Pangos lead the way, but Przemek Karnowski, Byron Wesley, Domantas Sabonis and Gary Bell Jr. form one heck of a supporting cast. If the Zags can force someone other than Okafor or Winslow to beat them, they have the balanced attack to knock off the Blue Devils.
But if Okafor bounces back from a tough game against Utah—which seems a safe bet—and Winslow keeps doing a little bit of everything for Duke, the Blue Devils will advance to the Final Four.
Michigan State, meanwhile, feels too hot to bet against. The Spartans are 7-1 in their last eight games, with the only loss coming against Wisconsin and wins over tournament teams Indiana, Ohio State, Maryland, Georgia, Virginia and Oklahoma.
The Spartans can win playing in just about any game—probably the biggest reason they've advanced this far—but this will be a game likely decided by pace. If the Spartans can get out and run, hitting Louisville before it can get into its zone defense and creating open perimeter shots, the Spartans will win.
