Players to Watch in Elite Eight

Frank Kaminsky (Wisconsin)

Wisconsin forward Frank Kaminsky may very well be named the player of the year, and if the Badgers are going to get past Arizona in the Elite Eight, the 7-footer will have to play like it.

The senior big man has enjoyed a spectacular season, with per-game averages of over 18 points and eight rebounds, and he has carried that play over into the NCAA tournament as well. With 19 points in the Sweet 16 against North Carolina, Kaminsky was a driving force behind Wisconsin getting to this point.

Kaminsky actually got off to a slow start against the Tar Heels, but Badgers forward Nigel Hayes doesn't believe it made him press any harder, according to SI.com's Phil Taylor.

"

The thing about Frank is that he is a star, but he doesn't feel pressure to constantly prove he's a star. He didn't come in at halftime mad at himself and tearing things up or anything. He trusts his teammates to do their jobs if he's a little off or if defenses are just concentrating on him. Even with all his accolades, he understands that we're a team, not a one-man show.

"

Despite the rough first half, Kaminsky ultimately had a great game, as he turned it around in the second. With graduation and the NBA on the horizon, Kaminsky was prepared for his run to be over, per Wisconsin Basketball on Twitter:

There is no doubt that Kaminsky will have his work cut out for him in the Elite Eight against an Arizona team that has a fantastic post presence.

He'll have to deal with the likes of Brandon Ashley and Kaleb Tarczewski, but if Kaminsky can find a way to win that battle, then the Badgers have a great shot at a second consecutive Final Four.

Jerian Grant (Notre Dame)

Although he may get lost in the shuffle in the national discussion at times, there is no question that Notre Dame guard Jerian Grant is a stud. He proved it during the ACC tournament, and he has continued to play like a superstar in the NCAA tournament as well.

The Fighting Irish barely survived their first two games against Northeastern and Butler, respectively, but they came through due largely to Grant's late-game heroics. He is a capable scorer, distributor and defender, which sets him apart from the pack, according to ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman:

Grant's most impressive showing may have come in the Sweet 16 against Wichita State. While he had only nine points, the Irish won by 11 points and largely dominated the game.

That is because Grant decided to get his teammates involved and make them better to the tune of 11 assists, which was a Notre Dame record in the NCAA tournament, per ESPN Stats & Info:

The Irish are about to face the biggest challenge of their season, as they will clash with undefeated Kentucky in the Elite Eight. Notre Dame can't match the Wildcats' size, but it can certainly run and score with them.

Grant will lead the way in that regard, and if he somehow manages to pull off the game of his life, then the Irish may have a chance to do what nobody else has and knock off the perfect Wildcats.

Justise Winslow (Duke)

Duke is a team that is stacked with freshman talent, but it can be argued that none of its first-year players have impressed more than small forward Justise Winslow.

While Winslow is averaging a modest 12 points, six rebounds and two assists per game, his level of importance to the Blue Devils is immeasurable. He excels in essentially all areas, and he has been especially impressive over the past two rounds of the NCAA tournament.

After putting up 13 points and 12 rebounds in the round of 32 against San Diego State, Winslow elevated his play even more in a Sweet 16 win over Utah, as he scored 21 points and grabbed 10 boards.

According to SportsCenter, that put him in elite company among Duke freshmen:

Winslow has been all over the floor and making big plays on both ends as of late. Because of that, ESPN.com's Jeff Borzello has compared him to some pretty special players:

There will inevitably be a great deal of focus on big man Jahlil Okafor when Duke faces Gonzaga in the Elite Eight, but most of Okafor's contributions are limited to the painted area.

Winslow can make an impact down low, on the perimeter and essentially everywhere else. He may also be responsible for guarding Bulldogs star Kyle Wiltjer, which means the Blue Devils need him to be a difference-maker once again.
