WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from March 26

The Doctor Chris MuellerMar 26, 2015

Every week on Bleacher Report, I take an in-depth look at WWE SmackDown to recap the action, offer analysis and grade the matches, segments and anything else that takes place on the show. I also provide some predictions on the direction of storylines.

This was the final stop on the Road to WrestleMania. As is usually the case with the go-home SmackDown heading into the pay-per-view, it was a limited card.

WWE basically uses the final show before the Showcase of the Immortals as one long commercial for the biggest event of the year, but they still throw in a few matches to make it worth watching.

On top of all the video packages and interviews, we were shown some footage of WrestleMania Axxess with Renee Young and Byron Saxton. They recapped all the major feuds and presented a few new videos, one of which featured a great Johnny Cash song.

We didn't get to see a lot, but let's take a look at everything that took place on this week's SmackDown.

Fernando vs. Big E vs. Jimmy Uso vs. Cesaro

1 of 5

The tag titles will be defended in a Fatal 4-Way match on Sunday, but before they fight for the belts, one man from each team was put into a preliminary Fatal 4-Way.

As with any contest like this, everyone took turns fighting everyone else. Nobody formed an alliance, which made things a lot more interesting.

Jimmy Uso ended up getting the win with a Superfly Splash to Cesaro. It definitely could have gone on longer and kept the crowd's attention, but it makes sense not to overwork these guys before Sunday.

Nevertheless, it was a fun match that showcased each participant's qualities, which is not always easy to do with that many people in the ring.

Grade: B-

Notes and Highlights:

  • Cesaro using Fernando's body as a weapon was pretty creative.
  • A four-man superplex is always fun.
  • You would usually expect a huge brawl outside the ring, but everyone managed to keep things civil while cheering on their partners.

AJ, Paige and the Bellas Hype WrestleMania

2 of 5

AJ Lee came to the ring to discuss her upcoming match teaming with Paige against the Bella Twins, but it quickly became clear that she wasn't on the same page as her partner.

Paige came out and expressed her concerns due to the rocky history she shares with AJ, but they seemed willing to put their issues aside for the sake of beating Brie and Nikki.

As expected, the Bellas came out and talked some trash. When word of this promo hit the Internet earlier this week, there was a lot of speculation that it would be edited down, but it looks like WWE kept most of it intact.

All four women did a good job selling their feud here. AJ is always on point when it comes to mic skills, but Paige, Brie and Nikki stepped up to her level. In fact, this was one of the best non-wrestling segments involving the Divas we have seen in a long time.

Grade: A

Notes and Highlights:

  • It was funny to hear AJ acknowledge the fact that she has been in storyline relationships with a bunch of WWE Superstars.
  • AJ calling the Bellas the "Kardashians" was great but not totally accurate—the Bellas actually work for what they have.
  • Nikki's continued improvement in the ring and on the mic has been fun to watch over the past year. If she keeps going at this pace, she might actually earn the respect of the hardcore fans.

Cena, Bryan, Henry and Reigns vs. Rollins, Wyatt, Big Show and Kane

3 of 5

WWE packed as many feuds as it could into one match for the main event, as Roman Reigns, John Cena, Mark Henry and Daniel Bryan teamed up to take on Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins, Kane and Big Show.

Outside of Survivor Series, eight-man tag matches are very tricky. Everyone has to get some time in the ring, which leads to nobody getting as much as they need.

However, the fact that this was a very light show gave them a decent amount of time to work. That allowed them to keep a steady pace instead of trying to pack everything in just a few minutes.

The babyfaces picked up the win after everyone got into a brawl that ended with Bryan hitting Big Show with the running knee. It wasn't amazing, but it was a decent way to send us into WrestleMania weekend.

Grade: B-

Notes and Highlights:

  • It was a little weird that Bryan was in this match but nobody else from the IC title feud was included.
  • It makes no sense that Henry was brought back with almost no storyline. His return would have been more effective the night after WrestleMania or as a surprise entrant in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
  • Reigns always comes down the same aisle. He needs to switch it up so fans don't know where he is going to come from.
  • J&J Security finally have matching suits. Now they just need to get matching ties and they will look like real G-Men.

WrestleMania Axxess

4 of 5

Throughout the night, Renee Young and Byron Saxton discussed WrestleMania and the Axxess event that precedes the show.

Young has been likable since she first arrive on the scene in WWE, but this was one of the first times when Saxton looked just as comfortable in this kind of position.

The two played off each other very well, which made the fact we were watching them instead of wrestling easier to digest.

Grade: B

Notes and Highlights:

  • There was a little editing mishap when they tried to play the IC title video package. You could hear Young laughing instead of the audio from the first few moments of the video.
  • Young announced that Aloe Blacc will sing at WrestleMania.
  • The video package of the Undertaker set to Johnny Cash's "Man Comes Around" was excellent. It's not the first time his music has been used for Taker, and hopefully it won't be the last.

Final Thoughts and Predictions

5 of 5

You can't fault WWE for filling SmackDown with video packages instead of matches this close to WrestleMania, but it won't have been a popular decision with fans.

We have seen all the videos and recaps that were shown for several weeks now, so the only new ground covered involved what happened on Raw.

Both matches had some entertaining moments, but the promo delivered by Paige, AJ and the Bellas stole the spotlight from everyone else.

Since Sunday will feature six hours of WrestleMania when you include the Kickoff special, it might be good that we weren't overloaded with wrestling on Thursday.

With the biggest night of the year upon us, every prediction will be about WrestleMania.

Predictions:

  • Sheamus will return as a babyface, only to shock everyone by turning heel.
  • Seth Rollins will cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Sunday or the following night on Raw.
  • At least two titles will change hands at WrestleMania.
  • At least one person will leave the ring on a stretcher.
  • Damien Mizdow will finally turn on the Miz.

What did you think of this week's SmackDown and what are your WrestleMania predictions?
