Jonathan Martin's hopes of finding a home with the San Francisco 49ers lasted one year, as the team has waived the former second-round pick.

The 49ers officially announced the move in a release on their website and through their Twitter account:

Martin has had a tumultuous start to his NFL career. After being drafted 42nd overall by the Miami Dolphins in 2012, he started in 23 games over two seasons before leaving the team in October 2013 due to a bullying scandal involving teammate Richie Incognito.

In March 2014 the 49ers acquired Martin, who played for then-head coach Jim Harbaugh at Stanford, in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick. He appeared in 15 games, making nine starts as San Francisco's offensive line battled injuries.

At 25 years old, Martin will be looking at his third team in four years if he sticks in the NFL after struggling last season. Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times speculated about a team that may have interest due to its needs on the offensive line in 2015:

If a team claims Martin, it will be on the hook for his entire 2015 salary of $1.04 million, via Spotrac. If he makes it through the waiver process, he will become an unrestricted free agent and be able to pick his team, should anyone be interested in his services.

The 49ers roster continues to shift following the departure of Harbaugh. This is one of the rare moves thus far that isn't likely to cause mass panic among San Francisco fans, though it does leave Martin floating in space as he tries to revive a stagnant career.
